MGM to make The Hobbit!

I read on comingsoon.net that MGM is prepared to make a big screen version of Tolkeins "the Hobbit". There was more to the article but you need a Variety.com subscription to get the whole thing.

Anyone got a sub to Variety.com? I wanna know what the rest of it says!

I just read at AInt it cool news that MGM wants Peter Jackson to make it, but he says he has not been contacted by them. Apparently the rights to make the movie are in the hands of New Line, but MGM has the rights to distribute. With any luck the 2 studios will be able to get together to make it.
