Lucas named Rose Parade grand marshal
PASADENA, Calif. -- The Force will be with the Rose Parade next year. "Star Wars" creator George Lucas was named Tuesday as grand marshal of the 118th annual Tournament of Roses. "It's always had a very special place in my heart and now it's an amazing thought that I'm going to be riding that funny old car at the very end of the parade," the 62-year-old director said. Also Tuesday, USC said Lucas' Lucasfilm Foundation will donate $75 million to help with new construction and renovations at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. The foundation is also donating $100 million to serve as an endowment to the school. Taken together, the gifts are the largest single donation in USC history, the school said. Lucas was a film student at USC and graduated in 1966.
