    next up... "Jungle Cruise"

according to ComingSoon.net the Hollywood Reporter says "Smallville" showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar are in talks to write Jungle Cruise, an adventure movie and potential franchise that is being produced by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman through their Mandeville Films label.

"Cruise" is based on the Disneyland ride in which parkgoers travel the jungle river guided by a riverboat skipper, encountering such wild creatures as pirhanas and gorillas during their tour. The ride was one of the 22 original attractions when the park opened in 1955.

That's dumb... Jungle Cruise was already based on a movie... one starring Katharine Hepburn, even.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

How can the ride actually be based on African Queen?

I'd say it was merely inspired by... Walt couldn't exactly base a ride on the movie since it's not his movie to use in such a way.

Similarly, Matterhorn is merely inspired by Third Man on the Mountain.

Saying it's based on the movie implies that the ride shares plot and/or characters of the movie.

                More fun on the way:
Disney chairman Dick Cook revealed that a film titled Jungle Cruise, after another popular Disneyland attraction, is in development.

And animatronic figures of Knightley's and Bloom's characters are expected to join the newly installed Depp character in Disneyland's Pirates ride next year.

Re: Jungle Cruise coming to a theater near you...

Its a dumb idea. The only reason this movie is being considerd is because of the success of "Pirates". Hollywood has decided that they are now going rumage through the Disney parks for movie ideas. Why cant they do some real work and come up with original ideas?

How's it a dumb idea? It sounds like it has the possibility of becoming a modernized version of the classic African adventure film... we haven't had a film like that for a while (at least one that wasn't a horror or thriller).

Hollywood hasn't decided this, Walt Disney Pictures has. In the realm of original ideas, this concept would qualify. They're looking to work with a young writing team and experienced producers. If they reach out to a better than good director like Gore Verbinski for example, and don't overload the boat with a 800-pound gorilla star like HM did, you've got fabulous elements working for you. It's theirs to make succeed.

I don't think it's such a bad idea. Could work.

Is everybody forgetting Mission to Mars??? Another Atraction made into a movie (or at least the same name).

Oh wait ... EVERYBODY forgot Mission to Mars. That's right.

Mission to Mars simply shared the name, but Mission:Space is based on the movie -- sortof. It was going to be directly based on the movie, but the movie flopped. But, they still got a star of the movie and props from the movie on the final ride.

I dont want them changing my beloved Jungle Cruise ride like they ruined POTC (in my mind)
Please dont say they are out of ideas...

PS if they need a movie, do the Tiki Room, so they can revamp that...
