  • Aida - What do U Think?

Going to see Aida at the Pasadena Civic Center this weekend, 1-23-2005. Wanted to get some opinions from anyone who has seen it yet. Broadway, Touring, here in LA?

    Give me your thoughts!!

I haven't personally seen it, but my sister saw it in New York and she said it was awesome. I've heard the soundtrack and the music is definitely very good! If your a fan of modern Broadway musicals, I'd say you'd probably like it for sure!

Aida was the first musical I was on Broadway and I fell in love immediately! The music is phenominal and the storyline is moving. The sets are okay, but there are a few that will catch your attention. It's definitely written by Elton John and Tim Rice...the music can be upbeat and powerful!

      I hope you enjoy it!!!

It's very contemporary, and very Elton John sounding. A couple of the songs feel like they don't quite fit, a little too rock and roll, but otherwise a good show, with several stand-out songs.

I have seen it twice, but last time Mickey Dolenz from The Monkees was in it which was odd but he was pretty good!
        A signature should go here.

My sister saw the Mickey Dolenz one, too! She was really excited about it because we're both big Monkees fans!

It is no Lion King but it is a abover average Broadway show.

Great show. Quite possibly the best lighting design I have ever seen on stage. Simply amazing. The music is fantastic and the scenic design is great. Very elaborate and flamboyant costumes. I loved it.

                  It's not the Disney production!

Ive seen Aida more than enough times. My favorite cast ever was the Disney touring cast with the exception of the guy from the monkeys everyone was perfect! I saw it on Broadway 2 different times with michelle williams and debra cox and both could not handle the role of AIDA and the show was just not as good as the tour...
I saw the Pasedena production friday and I wish i would have gone with lower expectations... Finally an AIDA that can sing but its more of an AIDA musical revue... the sets and costumes are so poorly done its lost all of its disney magic.

I've seen Aida, it's a very good show. When I went to NY in 2002, Adam Pascal was still there, but Heather Headley (spelling?) was not, and niether was the original Amneris. I *think* I saw Idina Menzel as the understudy!

Somebody let me come through, I'll always be there as frightened as you, to help us survive being alive."

I saw the touring company in Phoenix in 2001 and I really enjoyed it. The effects are pretty cool, especially at the end when they bury them together. It certainly wasn't the best show I have ever seen, but very entertaining. Now Mary Poppins, THERE is a musical I CAN'T WAIT to see! (If only Julie Andrews could still sing!) We should organize and MICEage trip to London to see it when it opens on the west end

I love the songs 'Elaborate Lives' and 'My Strongest Suit', but I left the theatre feeling a little ambivalent about the whole experience. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either...

The Broadway production was excellent, however the company you will be seeing is not produced by Disney. I wouldn't expect the same level of talent and production values you would have seen on Broadway or in the original national tour. This is a non-Equity production that may or may not have rented the original sets and costumes for their production. Be sure to let us know how it is.
