Author Of Disney Book Says Company's Impact Cuts Both Ways

ORLANDO, Fla. -- As Disney celebrates the 50th anniversary of Disneyland in California, many are reflecting on the impact of Walt Disney World on Orlando.

The park opened its doors in 1971 and it forever changed the image of the sleepy orange town, WESH 2 News reported.

"Without Disney, Orlando would be Ocala or Lakeland, with a little bit of technology," said political scientist Richard Fogelsong.

Fogelsong, a professor at Rollins College, wrote "Married to the Mouse: Walt Disney World and Orlando" about the park's impact on Central Florida.
