Who Likes "Ugly Betty?"

Well, I don't normally watch much TV and especially the seasonal series premieres. Haven't followed a series faithfully since Twin Peaks.

But this show has had such good press, along with the fact that I've seen the original on Spanish TV several years ago so I was interested.

We watched the first episode and it was very well done. America Ferrera is perfect as Betty. Not as over the top as the original actress but it still delivered some laughs during the first hour.

Then this Thursday rolled around and we had nothing else to do so we watched the second episode and enjoyed it again. It's already becoming predictable but still better than so much of the crap that is on Network TV.

Saw it did extremely well in the ratings the first week so I'm wondering what all The Chatters are thinking about it.

Oh I LOVED it. The fashion tv channel clips were hilarious, espcially the last one. I also liked the Spanish soap opera the family was watching.

We watched it this week since there seemed to be nothing else on. It wasn't bad. I got a few chuckles out of it. I don't think it will go on the DVR schedule though.

i didn't think I would like it but so far I do. yes it's predictable but most tellenovellas are. lets see what the rest of the season holds

I've only seen one episode (second one), but I thought it was cute. Not laugh out loud funny, but amusing.

I enjoyed it but it's on during the Office so I don't know what to do. Flip back and forth during commercials I guess.

I think it's a sweet show! It usually seems to address some issue, like body image in the last episode, and I think that's cool. It's a very sweet show and so far I'm enjoying it very much. Anyone who would don braces for a roll is cool in my books! Brave girl! They were the most painful 9 months of my life. Oh, adolescence.

I saw the premier on some odd cable channel,
so I don't even know when and where it's normally
broadcast. Enjoyed the 1st show very much,
good writing and hopefully the characters will
grow into their roles ~ looks promising if they can
keep Betty as a square peg in a round hole.

Ms. Ferrera also sounds like a young actress with some common sense. Here's a quote from a recent interview:

I thought it was fairly entertaining but I'm not a fan of sitcoms so one that is an hour long has a hard time holding my attention.

She was brilliant in "Real Women Have Curves" out a few years ago. Salma Heyak rocks too! I hope the Show does well, and I hope young women watch it, and learn from it.

It was a cute show. I thought the premiere episode was much better than the second, but I wasn't expecting to like it at all. Unless something better comes along, I'll probably continue to watch. I agree with earkid that an hour is a little long for a sitcom.

I guess it is considered a sitcom, but only in the sense that Desperate Housewives is a sitcom. Not the traditional half hour with laugh track type.

It's OK. The first ep. was just a rehash of Devil Wears Prada to me. Second ep was better but eh. i just feel like it's nothing new. I hardly ever watch fashion stuff yet I have seen all this a hundred times before.

America was on Ellen yesterday. She said she had some mouthpiece with fake braces on them. It was a good interview. Another reason America has a good head on her shoulders: She has one semester of college left and is finishing Good for her.

I really like her and so far she's done some great acting. I hope she stays true to herself.
