BURBANK, Calif., Oct 09, 2006 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The Walt Disney Company will honor legendary songwriter Sir Elton John, as well as 11 additional inductees, with the prestigious Disney Legends Award during a ceremony at The Walt Disney Company headquarters on Monday, October 9, at 4:00 p.m. Presiding over the ceremony will be Disney President and CEO Robert A. "This annual ceremony, now in its 19th year, gives all of us at Disney a moment to remember the importance of our past achievements and to recognize those who embody this company's constant focus on delivering unparalleled creativity, quality and innovation to our audiences around the world," said Iger. Im sorry, I might get flamed for this but I dont think Elton John deserves a Disney Legend award. These awards should be given to individuals as a lifetime achievement award. Elton John only a few Disney songs and has only sung one that I can think of.
Maybe Disney is only going after "wow" factor in giving him this award.

Elton John? I'm a fan of his early stuff, but I can't see him as a Disney Legend. Tim Considine, Tommy Kirk, Kevin Corcoran - YES YES YES. Elton John? Nothing against him, but I don't see what he has done that constitutes him to be a Disney Legend.

Without question, the most deserving name on the list is Paul Frees. His voice work on ATIS and especially on the Haunted Mansion are truly the things of legend. Voicing Ludwig von Drake is just icing on the cake.

Now then, regarding Elton John's qualifications as a Disney Legend:

Elton as Legend. A Rock and Roll legend perhaps, but not a Disney legend even though his songs are featured in the highest grossing Disney animated film.

Phil Collins is already a legend so why can't Elton John.

It's about time Paul Frees made the list.

And I'm simply going to ignore Elton John.

Yeah, I see Sir Elton and the late Peter Jennings in a similar light ... "Disney Legends"? Ehhhh...

But great to see Paul Frees, the late-great Joe Ranft, and Imagineer Don Edgren (whom I'd like to find out more about) in there....

C'mon people. Can't you feel the love, tonight?

It may not be popular here, but it at least will get noticed.

Elton has done a LOT of work with Disney... can't see how he doesn't deserve the Disney Legend prize.

After all the Lion King work he's done (both movie and broadway), plus Aida, plus his cameo in The Country Bears, plus Gnomeo & Juliet -- well, how can he not have as much of a place among Disney Legends as Steve Martin?

I'm surprised it's Elton John everybody's complaining about and not Peter Jennings, who's mostly legend by acquisition.

Legend by acquisition certainly . . . but Jennings still worked for Disney for 10 years.

So, then, why doesn't anybody raise a fuss about Julie Andrews being a legend? She certainly has done considerably less with Disney than Elton has...

I don't understand Peter Jennings being a Disney Legend.
Even though Disney purchased ABC, that shouldn't be
enough to qualify ABC news personalities for Disney Legend
Status. ABC probably has it's own "Hall of Fame" award,
and yes, Peter Jennings should be a part of that.
