Re: Woman who blames Extreme Makeover

It's just sad that this person felt it necessary to go on some stupid TV show to fix her looks because of her personal insecurities. Worse still is the media that loves to look and make comments on one individual's "flaws". It's so easy for the show to twist peoples words or pick out the really nasty things that a loved one may say.

But it also sounds like she may have had some deeper issues to work thru.

Hahaha ABC is in no way responsible for that woman's suicide. I don't care how much you think you were manipulated into saying mean things about someone. What you say is ultimately your responsibility. Unless ABC shoved bambo sticks up her fingernails to get her to say her sister was ugly as sin then they are not liable for anything.

They considered her for the show, they decided not to use her, end of story. Her sister comitting suicide four months later, probably because of other issues, is ultimately her choice.

It's awful that TV producers have to provoke cruel comments from friends and family. It's one thing to say "she always thought she was ugly" but quite another to say "I always thought" it.

        The whole thing is revolting.

What is also revolting is that they got that Deleese person all prepped and ready and because her 'makeover' was too complicated for their 'time frame' it makes you realize that they really weren't concerned with making someone over, but more concerned with completing a show and the ratings.

If this is what it takes to get this drek off the air, so be it.

Right on. I am all for anyone wanting to change their look for themselves....to make them feel better - but what this does on TV is it is coming from MASS MEDIA that you HAVE TO HAVE THIS otherwise you are 'nothing'. That's such a wrong thing.

I'm including every reality/faux-reality/contest show, too.

And, starting last night, "Studio 60 on Sunset Strip." So contrived. So wannabe edgy. So drekky. Takes the Matthew Perry character 5 minutes of showtime to discover that trying to make the ex jealous with an autographed boot is a waste of time? What a waste of time, but it did get some cute, scantily-clad chicks on the tube. And if any of the supposedly funny lines for the TV-show-in-the-TV-show were actually funny, it wouldn't be so painful to see characters we're supposed to care about say that they are funny. Maybe it's making fun of SNL, which has officially stopped being funny for a whole 82 minutes (musical guests excluded).

I am so glad the Swan is no longer around. Hated that, hate this tv show. Instead of fixing 'ugly' pople, give them a new hairdo, some makeup, and put people with actual deformities on.
                  *backs off rant*

I am sad that she felt like sueing, but I actually back her. If EM was willing to push a sibling to talk about how ugly her sister is, then they need to understand what the concequences could be if they do not go through with the plan. What, was she not ugly enough?
DO they do counseling with this show? I don't even know.
