  • Genesis Reunion tour in 2007

Can I get a Hell Yeah!!!

BBC, News, BBC News, news online, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

Rock veterans Genesis are to reform, 10 years after frontman Phil Collins left.

Collins, 55, with guitarist Mike Rutherford, 56, and keyboardist Tony Banks, 56, have agreed to take part in a major tour.

Genesis sold over 130 million albums during the '70s and '80s, despite losing singer Peter Gabriel in 1975.

A spokesman said specific details of the tour and "long term plans" including possible new material would be announced in the next few weeks.

The group was formed by Rutherford, Banks and Gabriel at Charterhouse public school in the 1960s.

Collins joined as drummer in 1970 and initially the band enjoyed cult success.

They only hit the commercial big time with hits like I Can't Dance, Mama and Invisible Touch after Gabriel left.
Collins had already voiced interest in a reunion before he announced his spilt from Orianne, his wife of six years, in March.

There are rumors that Peter Gabriel may join them on tour in 2008 ... which would rock even more.

They will be having a press-conference to annouce plans for touring on Nov. 7th.

HELL YEAH, I saw Phil's farwell tour and all I could think of is I hope Genesis will do a reunion tour. Land Of Confussion is still one of my favorite videos from the 80's

I love Phil Collins as well. I saw him at the Tacoma Dome when I was in high school. One of the best shows I've ever seen--he's so talented, running around, singing, drums. Amazing.

I'm sure the other guys are good too. If Peter Gabriel joins in, I think that's a show we'd go to!!

Peter has already said he's out.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Unless they're doing new stuff, I don't want to just see a re-hash of old stuff. But I know I'll have to go, just to see. I'd actually prefer to just see Phil again.

Wonder if they'll do any songs from "Calling All Stations"? Loved the songs, even though it took a bit to get used to Genesis being sung by neither Phil or Peter.

                ^ That's the one album I don't have ... and don't plan on having.

Again, Peter is out for 2007 ... but there are rumors that he may do it in 2008 since he's working on some new solo material.

Just from looking at that article from Peter:

"It's not that I've ruled it out, but I've got some new material that I'll be working on."

That's too bad about Gabriel not in the 2007 tour. He puts on such a fantastic show on his own! This should be a great Tour for them. I saw Gabriel in Oakland, in 86. Fantastic show!

I would have loved to have seen Peter join them. One can only hope he will be able and willing to join them in '08'.

It took me a while to get used to a new voice for Genesis, and it made me almost understand what older fans had to go through when Peter left and Phil became lead vocalist, but at least then, Phil had already been in the band and he'd sung co-lead on a couple songs, whereas Ray was brand new. I liked Ray's voice and delivery on the songs ("Shipwrecked" is particularly powerful), and I think I still connected with the songs because Tony wrote or co-wrote a lot of them, and I love Tony as a songwriter. I don't think I ever heard Ray sing any of their older songs, so I don't know how I'd react to that. Their tour for "Calling All Stations" never made it to the States, which disappointed me because I would have gone, but someone the mailing list was going across the pond to attend a concert, and she was gracious enough to bring me back a t-shirt from the concert.

There had been talk for quite some time of a reunion concert with Peter and Steve involved, which would have been something to see, if only to catch Supper's Ready live one more time.

It'll also be interesting to see if, when they go to the studio, if either of the other two will join them by then.

Steve and Tony butted heads so badly when they were in the group together, which as I recall was the major reason for Steve leaving. I don't remember ever hearing that they ever patched it up, so I can't imagine them wanting to work together again.

Most of the arguments came about the time "Seconds Out" was released, where much of Steve's work was mixed way down. Which is too bad, as it has some of his greatest moments.

And again, there was talk of a reunion concert with all of them in London, which fell through.

I remember seeing them tour behind "Foxtrot" in 1972--a spectacular show for the time, right up there with the "Meddle" tour of Pink Floyd about a year or so earlier.

I was a HA-YUGE Genesis fan in high school. Trick of the Tail, Wind and Wuthering...these were all amazing albums. I still have the vinyls somewhere...maybe in the attic as I've replaced most of them with CD's since. Genesis and Yes kept me going right through college.

The tour was announced at a press conference today - 20 dates in Europe and then 20 dates in the US. The European dates and locations have been announced, but neither the dates nor venues for the US dates has been announced yet.

The press conference is supposedly viewable at www.genesislive.tv. There were lots of questions and responses with regard to Peter Gabriel, Steve Hacket, set lists, etc.

Here's a press release that was apparently sent around:

Guess I'll be going to a concert or two next August or September.
