OK, so I was working at home Monday afternoon with General Hospital on awaiting Genie Francis's return to the show this week as Laura when I ran into something that almost made me want to hurl.
There was a scene involving dayplayers, pregnant wife and husband, arriving at the GH and hubby wants to get batteries for his ... TV ... so he can catch tonight's 'Monday Night Football game between the Giants and Cowboys on ESPN' ... that's a direct quote. The whole scene played out over 3-4 minutes, but was absurd and so forced that only an idiot would think this is natural.
This on the heels of two other INNOCENT (yeah, right) forced examples of synergy on GH that I've caught (and I don't watch it every day) in the past few months.
Once, a major character (Carly) bemoans not being able to 'watch the Oscars Sunday on ABC' with her dear friend Courtney because ... well, Court fell victim to a killer virus spread by a chimp and died (no, I am not making this up).
A few months later, Jax takes Carly's kids (who are cool to mommy's new beau) to WDW for the day on his private jet and they return with all kind of cool gifts, like Sorceror Mickey hats and Buzz Lighyear toys in REAL WDW shopping bags.
What I want to know is how much the person who forces these synergystic references into GH makes a year ... any guesses? I'm thinking mid six figures ... any thoughts?
Maybe tomorrow Luke will come back with Laura's cure to wake her from her four-year coma -- you guessed it -- a Golden Fastpass from the Year of a Million Dreams!
