Head in the clouds with Disney offer

Clay High grad to help create film, he's so CG inventive

Try pitching this story to a Hollywood movie mogul.

A Purdue University graduate student presents a paper at a conference on computer graphics. Movie studio executives hear about the paper and are so impressed, they ask the graduate student who prepared it to design the clouds for the studio's upcoming computer-generated cartoon feature.

"Yeah, right," the mogul would say.

"Don't call us. We'll call you."

Turns out that this story is based on true events in the life of Joshua Schpok, a 1999 Clay High School graduate. Schpok developed a computer program that will make the clouds in the Disney computer-animated feature "Valiant" look realistic.

"Valiant" tells the story of a pigeon who dreams of doing his part to help England in World War II by joining the Royal Homing Pigeon Service. The film opens Aug. 19.
