  • Disney Chief Executive Robert A. Iger is 'CEO of the Year' for 2006 - Yahoo.com

    Story at: http://biz.yahoo.com/pz/061206/109994.html

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 6, 2006 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- MarketWatch.com, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dow Jones & Company (NYSE:DJ - News), and a leading provider of business news, financial information and analytical tools, today announced that Robert A. Iger, president and chief executive of The Walt Disney Company, has been selected as its ``CEO of the Year'' for 2006.

Mr. Iger, who was appointed to the post of chief executive on Oct. 1, 2005, was selected by MarketWatch senior editors from a field of five candidates nominated by MarketWatch journalists. The other candidates were Ginger Graham of Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc., Lawrence Kellner of Continental Airlines Inc., Steve Sanger of General Mills Inc., and Jeffrey Sprecher of IntercontinentalExchange.

Mr. Iger was selected based on four criteria: performance for customers over the last year, performance for shareholders, performance for employees and corporate governance initiatives.

``All of our finalists had outstanding years and the debate over who should win was brisk,'' said David Callaway, editor-in-chief of MarketWatch.com. ``But Bob Iger stood above the rest. Not just for how he helped boost Disney's share price after several tough years, but for how he mended fences with dissident partners, reformed the management culture, and presided over the $7 billion buyout of Pixar, which arguably returned Disney to its animation roots.''

Mr. Iger's award will be presented at a ceremony hosted by MarketWatch and Dow Jones editors and executives early in 2007. Past winners include Meg Whitman of eBay, Raymond Mason of Legg Mason, and Ed Zander of Motorola.

Separately, MarketWatch announced that Ramesh Pandey of XeChem International Inc. has been named ``CEO of the Year'' for 2006 by MarketWatch users. Other candidates included Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., James Sinegal of Costco Wholesale Corp., and Steve Jobs of Apple Inc., among others. Besides participating in a poll, MarketWatch users actively tapped social networking sites, message boards and other viral online tools to encourage voting for their favorite nominees. "Bob Iger and the entire management team have done a great job in the last year. They are making the right moves at the right times, which will keep the company competitive in the years to come," Eisner's statement said.
            Can we say, "Kiss *ss?"

This is someone who said that Iger over paid for Pixar when the deal went down.

Congratulations, Bob! Keep up the good work. I admire so many of your choices.

                Please finish restoring Tomorrowland/Disneyland.

Please find a quality solution to DCA.

Please make all of Walt's films, TV programs, short subjects and music freely available on DVD, CD or download.

Please re-release Walt Disney's Song of the South in theatres and on DVD.

Please release all of the Disneyland/Walt Disney Presents/Wonderful World of Color anthology series on DVD, also Zorro and The Mickey Mouse Club and The Mouse Factory.

Please launch a Disney Classics Channel - or perhaps a classic Disney programming block on Sundays on ABC Family or TDC?

Please return WDFA traditionally animated fairy tales to production (not sassy Shrek things, but sincere classics based on the real myths).

Please end the cycle of humiliation that is Disney Toon Studios and their dreadful, unnecesary, artless sequels.

Please rediscover the Walt in Walt Disney Imagineering.

Let me know if I can help...

And please, Bob, make sure that the library assets are being fully restored in a timely manner - - For example: Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow (aka Screcrow of Romney Marsh - with Patrick McGoohan), once a key TV asset (and a still bootleg favorite at genre conventions), has reportedly had its DVD release held up for years by divisions not paying to finish it's restoration. Someone has to pay for this, even if it is coprorate overhead, or such assets will be lost over time.

Also, legal issues need to be settled on many other titles that prevent their continued exploitation.
