Bottom turn: The once-human Surfer goes on a "highly emotional" rampage
through the cosmos in the upcoming The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

The Silver Surfer surfaces in 'Fantastic Four' sequel

It's surf's up for next year's Fantastic Four sequel.

In June, the Silver Surfer jumps from page to screen in The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

With computer-generated imagery techniques similar to those used to create Gollum in The Lord of the Rings, the slippery Surfer, voiced by Doug Jones, "will look somewhere between gun metal and fluid metallics so you can see the body motion, the breathing, the muscle tone, the mood," says Marvel Studios CEO Avi Arad.

The Surfer's mood is key to the story. After striking a deal with the evil Galactus to save his planet, the once-human Surfer wreaks havoc throughout the cosmos. "He is a highly emotional being, trapped inside fluid metal," Arad says.

Audiences will get a first look at the Silver Surfer this weekend in trailers before Night at the Museum.

Very cool. I actually liked the first Fantastic Four so I am looking forward to this.

Can't wait to see the CG imagery techniques that bring the Surfer to life. The next F4 installment is something I am highly anticipating. Thanks ALIASd for letting us know that it will soon be time to ride the cosmic waves.

I'll wait and see on this one. The first Fantastic Four movie was a real letdown, especially compared to the excellent fare lately (X-Men 3, Spiderman 2, Batman Begins).

Well, those other franchises had the benefit of extraordinary directors such as Bryan Singer for X-Men 1 & 2 (and survived Brett Ratner with 3...), Sam Raimi and Christopher Nolan, respectively.

'The Fantastic Four' had the guy that directed 'Taxi' starring Jimmy Fallon. But it still managed to do well, hopefully the sequel will surpass the original.

Saw the preview yesterday with Night at the Museum and the reaction from the crowd was very enthusiastic. Silver Surfer looked sweet!!!
