  • The headless Dwarf on Your Host DVD!

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet. If so, my apologies.

Tonight, my family and I decided to watch the Disneyland Tenth Anniversary Special on the "Your Host, Walt Disney" DVD. We were enjoying the festivities, commenting on how different entertainment was in 1965. At one point, there is a dance in front of the castle with Mary Poppins and the Chimney Sweeps. Various Disney charachters are dancing in the background, both adding and at times distracting from the foreground action. Directly behind Mary and the Sweeps are the Seven Dwarfs. This is where it gets interesting! At the end of the dance, Mary takes off with her umbrella to the right of the screen. Apparently, the head of one of the dwarfs got caught in the flying mechanism. You can see, off to the right, his fake head get lifted off, and then fall to the ground in front of him, exposing the actors real head! We watched it several times in disbelief... yes, it is actually there! I laughed so much I thought I would die! If you own this DVD, take a look and let me know what you think :-)

I noticed that last week too when watching it. But I didn't think it was caught it looked more like it was just lifted off perhaps by the actor. Also notice how completely bored and lifeless most of the characters appear in the background throughout most of the whole thing. I have had a conversation about this before, and was told that it NEVER happens at DL, but notice that Peter Pan is played by a girl. Ahh yes those were the good old days.

I think there are two times a character takes off their head in that episode. Atleast I could have sworn there were two instances of that happening. I know that one of the Three Little Pigs take off their heads though.

I wonder if someone yelled "cut" too early? The charachters in the background are a hoot to watch! They look so... random and bored. I'll have to look for the little pig. Where is it?

I'm sorry I missed that. Next time I won't fast forward through the musical numbers!

Yes, when you see Mary start to actually fly away, look at the pigs. The shot is quick, but one of the pigs take off their heads as well.

I guess what was confusing me was the dwarf outfit has arms that dangle down. I didn't know the performers arms were elsewhere :-) Funny stuff.

Yeah those old costumes with the giant head did not have functioning arms for the characters and they just flopped around.

My daughter has watched the 10th anniversary special a hundred times (it is also on the Disneyland DVD) and I never noticed this!

i noticed it a couple years ago while watching this dvd. I thought he actually took of his head to watch mary poppins take off. i didn't realize it was an accident for some reason.
