  • And the Oscar Nomination Goes to...

This morning the Oscar Nominations were announced. There are some surprises, that's for certain. Did your favorites get nominated?

Here are a couple of links to the nominations:

    Official Oscar Site

    LA Times The Envelope

    (Proud Sister Moment ahead!)

One of my favorites was nominated, but I haven't seen the films (yet). My brother has worked with Alan Robert Murray for years now. They came close to winning an Oscar in 2000 with Space Cowboys, but they lost out to U-571.

My brother said that it is a huge deal to have one person nominated for two films in the same category. The nominations come from other sound editors who view the clips of the films up for contention. Most years, there are only two to three films nominated in this category. To see five in this category is great.

He also said that their work had to have been impeccable. Plus, getting nominated for two films that they all really believed in is a huge bonus. When he was working on Letters From Iwo Jima, Jason said that no other film he worked on over the course of being in the business for 18 years had touched him so deeply.

    BEST SOUND EDITING
"Apocalypto," Sean McCormack and Kami Asgar
    "Blood Diamond," Lon Bender
"Flags of Our Fathers," Alan Robert Murray and Bub Asman
"Letters from Iwo Jima"," Alan Robert Murray
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," Christopher Boyes and George Watters II

Anything listed on the park maps as an attraction is fair game for inclusion in the Rally.
I cannot confirm nor deny the inclusion of any attraction in the Rally.

Sorry about that, I guess I was thinking of the old school way of when we would lock the news threads then post a discussion thread in the appropriate forum.

Re: And the Oscar Nomination Goes to...

I've only seen 3 out of 5 best picture noms. I have some work cut out for me!

And yay, I'm glad to see LITTLE MATCH GIRL (roger allers and don hahn) get a nomination for best animated short. That was included in the recent Little Mermaid dvd release and was a cartoon originally made for a third Fantasia until that was canned.

Best Makeup nominee is Click?? Why? Because they made Sandler fat and then old?? Sorry, that was a great movie, but that catagory doesn't impress me.
