    'Travels' to DreamWorks

    Studio picks up sci-fi comedy

    BY Dave McNary
    Variety
    January 31, 2007

DreamWorks has acquired spec script "Gullible's Travels," a sci-fi comedy penned by Ron Friedman and Steve Bencich ("Open Season"), and set up the project with Bob Cooper's Landscape Entertainment.

Story centers on the planet's most gullible man, who's traveling through time via a portable potty to save the life of the woman he loves; as he runs into the woman in the past and future, he believes he's meeting relatives of the woman rather than the woman herself.

Friedman and Bencich will exec produce. Project was brought to Cooper by senior VP Orin Woinsky, who was originally involved in "Gullible's Travels" several years ago while an exec at Outlaw Entertainment.

Since Friedman and Bencich wrote the script, they have received credits on animated pics "Chicken Little," "Brother Bear" and "Open Season." They've also sold "The Missing Link" pitch to Disney and "The Treehouse" to Warner Bros.

Cooper's produced "John Tucker Must Die" for Fox and "Mr. Woodcock" for New Line, and he's developing "The Crusaders" for New Line.

I liked Flushed away. After monster house, the wild, madagascar, it was the best non pixar movie I'd seen in awhile. But my 4 year old neice hated it.

The folks at Lucas Arts must be proud...

After that huge write-down for Flushed Away, DreamWorks buys ANOTHER toilet film????? Do they blame Aardman and not a public aversion to escapist sewage for its lack of market-appeal?

          Crazy.

I think it was all those years Katz spent listening to Einser suck all the breathable air out of the room...

it's amazing to me how someone that could do movies like beauty and the beast, the little mermaid, and the lion king, among others, can also do movies like flushed away and madagascar, and over the hedge. Maybe katezenberg lost it somewhere?

Flushed Away was an excellent film from one of the greatest studios outside of Pixar... no saying bad things about such a wonderful film! That's just mean.

                Aardman rules, by the way...

But, I think saying Gullible's Travels is a toilet movie is stretching a bit too
much... that's like saying Monsters Inc. is a movie about doors.
