  • Obscure or Underrated Disney Movies

This thread continues the discussion from: http://micechat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31589.

I happened to recently see Disney's film version of Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo. And, while the movie has some major flaws, with a little editing, I would be alright if it, and similar films like "Hidalgo", carry the Disney name in ancillary markets and in re-release.

"The Count of Monte Cristo" suffers mostly from its ending since it betrays the point of the whole film and of the original novel, which are both supposed to argue against revenge. So, the protagonist has to either make the right choice at the climax or he needs to be punished for making the wrong choice. The denouement of this film, as it was released to theatres, does neither. At the end, one can almost hear the clueless Disney executive giving focus-group research as reasoning for making such a huge mistake. But, the movie still does have some value, and classic literature adapted for film is the kind of work that should carry the Disney name.

I'm actually curious to know what alternate endings were shot.

The Sword in the Stone is a film in the vein of Disney classics and doesn't deserve to be ignored like it is.

I think The Great Mouse Detective and Vincent Price's voice-over work for Ratigan is highly under-rated.

A Goofy Movie - Disney, please give us the 16:9 formatted, Special Feature laden 2 Disc 10th Anniversary set that should have came out in 2005. Also, I wouldn't be to impartial to booting Pocahontas of the List of Animated Classics for the film that actually has a cult following 12 years later!

Atlantis. The artwork that was in this film with some C.G.I is just amazing. I realize it has some story issues and much like Dinosaur, not very mom & kid friendly for some.
But the shadows and lighting throughout the film just amazed me.

                              Summer Magic with Hayley Mills

Definitely a film worth watching more than once. On the surface, it seems like typical, lighthearted, corny fare, but upon watching it a few times over, you realize that there are a lot of really great subtleties on all levels of that film. Subtleties in the performances, especially Haley Mills' performance, subtleties in the storyline, etc. That film CRACKS ME UP.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...
