  • Anybody remember Superman a long, long time ago?

I was watching a show tonight and they showed a restaurant named Mzxcyzxvz (or something).

That got me to thinking about an old (I mean old, old, old) Superman comic book villan. Seems the impish villan's name was spelled with all consonants.

Anybody here that old (1950's Superman comics) remember how to spell this impish villan's name?

Mister Mxyzptlk. he loves to annoy Superman and if he said his name backwards he would be teleported back to his dimenson for a minimum of 90 days. He was on the Animated cartoon and Howey Mandel played him in Louis and Clark

The Mr. Mxyzptlk episodes on the Superman Animated Series were awesome. Mr. Mxyzptlk was voiced by Gilbert Godfrey. A great thing about them is they teach you how to pronounce his name "Mix-yes-spit-lick". I specificially loved the first one when they did a montage of Superman tricking him to say his name backward. The best is when Clark is standing in front of a Mirror and Mxyzptlk appears. Clark then mispronounces Mxyzptlk's name backwards and Mxyzptlk corrects him. Then realizing what he had done Mxyzptlk says "Aw nuts" and teleports back to his own dimension.

Gsptlsnz. He just called her Giz. What a maroon, that Mix. She couldn't even get his attention dressing up for him in sexy outfits.

          Greatest version of Mxyzptlk ever.

How did he do that again? For "mix" he turned into a mixer. For "yes" he turned into a Yes "33 Album Cover and for lick he turned into a dog and, well, licked Clark. I can't remember what "spit" was exactly. Just that it involved spitting.

I think it was just that, he just spat in Clark's face. The whole arc about him ignoring his wife was hilarious. He was so obsessed with Superman he totally ignored her.

On Lois & Clark, if I remember correctly, they pronounced his name a bit differently than the animated series. It was more "Mixy-zih-pilttle-ik." Which makes more sense to me.

I'm gonna have to give the nod to the Paul Dini animated series over Lois and Clark. Mostly because the comicbook professionals that I have heard say the name pronounce it that way. And frankly, Lois and Clark wasn't that great. It may not be the worst intepretation ever (That's the probably the Superpup show. Imagine a live action superman series with people in dog costumes), but it was pretty lame.

                      Oh yes! Now I remember!

Thanks! For me that was a long time ago, never saw the animated series, don't remember Mister Mxyzptlk from the Lois and Clark series of course I didn't see it all anyway).

Now that I know the name (I'll be very careful not to say it backwards ) I can look it up (already did, Wiki had a picture of Mister Mxyzptlk.

Well, another mystery solved, now I can sleep better
