  • Disney teams with Four Seasons on expansion at Orlando resort (03/01/2007)

Walt Disney World Resort said it plans to convert its Eagle Pines and Osprey Ridge golf courses into a 900-acre luxury resort and golf community that will encompass timeshare homes as well as a Four Seasons hotel.

The plans also include the development of a 450-acre retail, dining and lodging venue on the western edge of the resort.

The new resort project, located in the northeast region of the Disney park, will include the Four Seasons hotel, an 18-hole golf course and timeshare and residential homes.

Disney said site work on the luxury resort could begin later this year, with the hotel slated to open in 2010.

Construction on the mixed-use development, meanwhile, which would be located just outside of the main gate entrance to Walt Disney World Resort, is expected to begin later this year. The project is expected to include 4,000 to 5,000 value-priced lodging units and 300,000 to 500,000 square feet of commercial space, Disney said.

According to Disney, the project will be built in stages over the next eight to 10 years and will be comparable in size to Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park.
