  • John Lasseter- the next Walt Disney?

Nobody could ever replace Walt as he is a unique individual who created many wonderful things, innovated the world, and did so much during his time here on Earth.

But all that asside, how does Lasseter compare? Is he walking in Walt's footsteps. He created his own animation studio and now he is working to improve Disney in and outside the parks. The whole time he seems grounded and attatched to the world around him, unlike many high up Disney folks.

So what do you think? Is he the next Walt Disney? Is he the next best thing? Or is he just another good guy that comes along now and then and wont leave a lasting positive impact?

Uh, no... He isn't interested or involved in live action pictures, a tv series - and hasn't really done any work imagining the future beyond applications for Renderman...

I don't know if Walt would have had a winery... Lassiter doesn't have a model train running around his property, though he lives close to Train Town in Sonoma County.

However, having said that, I believe he is closer than Miller was or even Roy is...

In the sense that he has impact on the parks quality, then he has the potential to be. A long time ago on the Imagineering blog, I said that what we needed was another visionary and that I'd settle for 'key' visionaries in key places. Lassiter is shaping up to be just that. But whether he jis ust a small ripple in a big pond, only time will tell. Besides, if rumor has it that Lassiter had enough influence to shut down a studio that isn't even under his creative control, then it's very likely he could build and expand that influence outward to the rest of Disney's multiple branches.

:lmao: All I know is that I hate John Lassiter's wife for breaking up the Beatles.

He is also known for his "imagine" earring. :mob:

I think John is quite a visionary who has a real eye for animation and storytelling, in much the same way that Walt Disney did. In fact, I think he's studied and implemented many of the same techniques that Walt used for his own studio, Pixar.

IMO, John is the closest thing to a Walt Disney we've seen at the Disney company since Walt died.

I like to think of it like this, John scores a 72 on the Walt-o-Meter...

                          Eisner is a minus 6...

He scores a 100 in "Comparison to Eisner" scale.

Why does anyone have to be "the next Walt Disney?" We had one. He was amazing--but he's not coming back.

Right now, I'm just pleased we have "the first John Lasseter."
