Disney's hit High School Musical is now morphing into a touring ice show.

High School Musical is hitting the ice.

"Disney's High School Musical: The Ice Tour" will open August 31 in Lakeland, Fla., and travel to at least 100 cities in the next year, Disney officials said Tuesday.

"High School Musical has been a smash hit in virtually every area of the entertainment spectrum," said Thomas Schumacher, president of Walt Disney Co.'s Disney Theatrical Productions. "The ice tour celebrates the fun and music in a whole new way."

The production will feature "some of the world's most talented skaters" performing music from the High School Musical soundtrack, said Nicole Feld of Feld Entertainment, the production company behind the ice show.

"With the ice as the dance floor, this event will be an unprecedented twist on a fan favorite," she said.

Okay, Disney is really milking this cash cow dry.

I had no objections to the Sing-along and Dance-along versions.
I actually bought the DVD and "Special Edition" CD Soundtrack.
I thought the parade they added to DCA and MGM (while painful to watch) was a nice addition.
I even liked the idea of having a concert tour featuring the original cast so they can actually show of their talents and promote their non-Disney-Channel-Related products.

But this is where I draw the line. They came dangerously close with HSM2 and the Haunted HSM for the big screen. Putting the franchise with the Disney on Ice group pushed it for me.

I don't know. I'm not a HUGE High School Musical fan, but this would be pretty cool... I think it would be hard to do some of the scenes on skates. I'm also surprised Anaheim isn't on the list.

The Anaheim Ducks are playing at Honda Center over some of the area dates. And I believe Feld Entertainment still has an exisiting agreement with the Long Beach Arena. Dates might be added as well.
