  • The 2006 Amusement/Theme Park attendance figures have been released

Well, since Amusement Business has closed down, TEA (used to be known as the Themed Entertainment Association) has teamed up with ERA (Economics Research Association) which has been compiling the attendance numbers for the last few years in association with AB. It is a combination of accurate numbers, such as those from Tokyo Disney Resort and the Cedar Fair Entertainment Group, which releases the official numbers, along with information from investment bankers, financial reports, local tourism organizations and convention and business bureaus, among others.

Go Magic Kingdom!!! And more importantly, go Animal Kingdom!!!!!! Up 8.6% is great (and its only a few thousand behind the Disney-MGM Studios. Glad to see all Disney World parks going up as usual and glad to see Epcot at 10m+ visitors again. Walt Disney Studios, however, is doing pathetic. 2.2 million visitors? And Hong Kong Disneyland came just a few thousand short of expectations. Not good, but not terribly bad.

I have a question though. A while back there was a link to a website that gave attendance figures for all Disney parks since the 1980s. It was in a nice chart. Does anyone know what website I am talking about and have the link to it?

it's amazing what a thrill ride does to a park's attendance.

            Thanks.

So the real reason I wanted that link is to point out that MK came just short of beating its record 1997 attendance. Should the growth stay the same, next year should be its biggest year ever (at 17.1 million) and in 2 years, it should conquer TDL's 2001's record attendance at just over 17.7 million.

And just as a few more comparisons,
            • This was Epcot's biggest year since the 2000 (it did beat 1999's attendance)
            • This was Disneyland's biggest year since at least 1983
            • This was MK's 2nd biggest year ever (again, behind 1997's 25th anniversary)
            • This was D-MGM's first time over 9 million since 1998 (Dak's opening)
            • This was DAK's biggest year ever (and its 3rd straight year of increase)
            • TDL is more or less even from last year, staying on a flat/downward trend since 2001
            • TDS had its second biggest year (behind 2004)
            • This was DLP's biggest year since 2001
            • WDSP saw virtually no change at 2.2m
            • It is interesting to note that if trends continue, next year Epcot will surpass DLP on the attendance chart
            • Additionally, DAK should surpass DMGM next year (especially with the new Nemo show)

Oh, and what's even more impressive about Animal Kingdom's attendance is that for a large part of the year, AK closes at least 2 hours earlier then DMGM. That comes out to virtually an extra month or two worth of park hours for DMGM (& the other parks).

Thanks DB. I was wondering who would generate this data with AB gone. On page 12 it appears the Floridians are trying to steal our beloved Disneyland. The report is split on whether DL is in Anaheim or Orlando. No one seemed to be trying to steal DCA though - likely to the dismay of many MiceChatters.
