  • Pirates Ride References in Movies

I appologize if this has already been discussed here, but I can't find it anywhere...

Does anyone know of a definative list of every nod to the ride from each one of the Pirates movies?

Is there one posted online somewhere?

    don't know if there's a website for it....but, then, there's a website for EVERYTHING....so I wouldn't be surprised. Here's a few though,

*the dog with the keys and the guys trying to lure him ver so they can get the keys POTC1

*the red head that slaps Jack POTC1

*Mr. Gibbs sleeping with the pigs POTC1

    *POrt Royale on fire POTC1

*in POTC3....you can't miss it. The screen goes black and you hear actual audio from the ride.

Curse of the Black Pearl...they are going through the caves, and they pass by some crabs on the beach...a sketeton lying on the ground with a sword in his back...

I'm still trying to figure out why they put it there. Felt totally random.

I thought they were going to show Jack Sparrow in Disneyland's POTC!

Well, you know, if that's what he considers to be hell...

I thought it was a little random too, but I still cracked up. I think I was one of the only people in my theatre to get it. Kinda sad!

I totally missed this as a ride reference. I guess because the animatronic is so much hotter. They really should have casted better there.

I was assuming that they represented other spirits who had been taken to Davey Jones' Locker.

I think it would have been funny to have Jack pop up out of a barrel or hid behind some dresses at some point.

Is it just me, or did the shot of Keith Richards sitting in the chair look too anyone else like the final, and poorly placed, "treasure room" scene on the ride?

Or made some mention of "We wants the redhead"... I mean, she wasn't even up for auction... to me she seemed coincidental.

The donkey from Will's blacksmith shop was put because there's the donkey sticking his head out of a door in the ride.

Where's the hat-stealing pirate teetering on the edge into his little boat?! He's one of my favorites.

                          Random?
I thought the timing was perfect. You go over the waterfall, you are in total darkness and start to hear the pirates music - just like the ride.

I agree with you! Everyone catches the ride audio, but very few people are noticing the waterfall before it. I thought it was hilarious.

Also, IMHO, I feel that the redhead was a lame reference. I was kind of hoping that she would be a more substantial character from the get-go. Oh well - maybe #4?

I definitely see what you're saying. While I totally loved it for the Disney-geek factor, I do agree that it was kind of a "what the hell?" reference that very tenuously makes sense. For me I was able to buy it as something like the ghostly echoes of fading life that one might here during the passage to the other side. In other films where a character is seen "passing on" they've shown flashes of memories or snippets of dialogue from that character's past (the "whole life flashing before my eyes" phenomena) so I took the black screened ride audio as bits of each of their experiences all running together as they each saw their lives flash before their lives on the trip over, and we (the audience) were just treated to a peek at those flashes.

I know it's not the strongest plot device, but to me it wasn't the biggest stretch as the story set it up as them journeying over to the other side by sailing over a gigantic lost waterfall, and compared to some of the other crazy stretches in the film this one was easy to believe.
