    College Program Digs New Housing
    June 5, 2007

Walt Disney World teams broke ground Tuesday in support of the Disney College, International and CareerStart Programs new housing complex.

MiceChat.com has learned that Walt Disney World Co. is collaborating with Wood Partners to build Patterson Court, a new housing complex for future participants in the Disney College, International and CareerStart Programs. It is scheduled to open in summer 2008 and will have 288 units to accommodate nearly 1,300 participants.

Leaders at Disney worked close with Wood Partners to proactively design a complex that would be a great fit for the program experience. Features will include four classrooms, a security guard shack at the entrance, and more parking spaces than at any of the other housing complexes.

Other features at Patterson Court will include a pool, fitness center, computer lab, car wash area, clubhouse, outdoor grills and laundry facilities. All housing units will also be equipped with high-speed Internet access as well.

Early sketches and previous work to the land near Chatham Square show that this housing complex will be built next to Chatham Square.

The Disney College, International and CareerStart Programs currently have four other housing complexes: Vista Way (opened in 1988) and Chatham Square (opened in 2000) and solely International housing at The Commons (opened in 1999) and Treehouse Villas (formerly Treehouse Villas of Disney Institute.)

This announcement shows more improvement to the Living component of the Disney College Program experience. Recent announcements regarding housing for the program include the opening of Club Thirteen501, a new wireless Internet lounge with a “living room feel” and Roommate Notification process beginning with the Fall 2007 participants.

I'm quite sure Vista Way was built before 1998 as I lived there in 1992...or did I?

Oops! It was 1988.. I mistyped it but I fixed it.

I wasn't aware that you lived there.

Yeah. It seems like a long time ago now.

I was a CP back in the days when Dick Nunis would yell at you for slouching on the job, all the Jungle Skippers were guys, the "two water parks" ment Typhoon Lagoon and River Country, Discovery Island was in the middle of Bay Lake, and Splash Mountain was the newest E-ticket in the Magic Kingdom . Well, I guess some things haven't changed that much.

              Those were good days.

Well, isn't that something. Of course, it is one option in a few years from now for me.
