  • How Vault Disney Channel Would Be Scheduled

We've been asking if viewers would like to see a channel called "Vault Disney", and many of you are argeeing.

How would a Vault Disney channel be scheduled? Well, I'm about to tell you. Like the original Disneyland, the network programming would be broken down in five lands, or as they call them in the television biz, "blocks".
    • Cartoon Land (6 AM-9 AM; 2 PM-5 PM M-F; 6 AM-1 PM weekends) - All the old Disney made-for-TV toons from the last twenty years like "Darkwing Duck", "House of Mouse", et al.
    • Playhouse Vault Disney (9 AM-2 PM M-F) - Many of the great programs from Disney Channel's preschool like "Dumbo's Circus", "Adventures in Wonderland", "Bear in the Big Blue House", etc.
    • Family Time (5 PM-10 PM M-F) - Shows like the various incarnations of "Mickey Mouse Club" and the classic anthology series "Disneyland" and its' successors go here. A classic Disney movie (or other movie property owned by Disney's broadcast rightholders) would air weeknights at 8 PM. Also, original programming airs from time from time.
    • Vault Disney After Dark (10 PM-6 AM) - Some of the more "edgier" fare (Touchstone movies like "Down and Out in Beverly Hills" for example) and other programming created by Touchstone, Hollywood Pictures and even Miramax would be here. Shows with the strongest rating of TV-14 would be here.
    • Weekends at The Vault - (1 PM-10 PM weekends) - Theme weekends such as "Before They Became Stars" (see Brittney Spears for example) and a weekly magazine show about Disney Theme Parks airing Saturday at 7 PM airs here.

The network (at least in therory) would begin broadcasting July 17th with a rebroadcast of the original dedication of Disneyland from 7 PM to 10 PM.

There you have it, and as usual, the criticism and comments are welcome.

Fraggle Rock remains a property of Jim Henson, and is not owned in whole or part by Disney... (Which is too bad too, could you imagine an imersive theme dark ride built on it? Wow...)

And this is only a fraction of the content that could be aired... You have older series: Zorro, Davey Crocket... You have telivision animation: The Littles, The Gummie Bears... Old Disney Channel Exclusive programming: how about "Anka!" What I wouldn't do to see the New Mickey Mouse Club on air again...

Maybe no-one responded because you were fantasising and actually created an entire schedule for a television channel.
I don't mean that to be nasty or insulting, but genuinely - it isn't the type of thread that can create a lot of discussion. If you get what I mean.

I wouldn't go that far. Many people have started threads similar to this, and have gotten response.

Which may be part of the problem. Many of us have been part of threads like this...sent impassioned letters and e-mails to the Disney Channel folk...and the response has been...none. Throw a couple of more old show DVD's into a tin and make em pay for it seems to be the response.

And again, even if Disney were interested, there's that whole "dollar" issue that comes up anytime a media conglomerate wants a cable company or even satellite service to pick up a new channel of theirs.

Re: How Vault Disney Channel Would Be Scheduled

Vault would be an advertising supported service. There would be two minutes out of about ten or twelve minutes of advertising per hour given back to the cable systems to sell local ads. Meanwhile, I'll get cracking onn a weekend schedule for you and BRB on it for you. The exception is when Vintage Playhouse Disney is airing, then there will be about one-third the ad time (four minutes per hour max) in that block.

Oh, as for Fraggle Rock, that was part of the merger with Disney. The Sesame Street Muppets were not part of the deal that was made a few years ago. That needed to be taken up with Sesame (nee Children's Television) Workshop. The Littles were done by Ruby-Spears as well.

Re: How Vault Disney Channel Would Be Scheduled

I would rather have this channel show only the old classic shows. Such as Zorro and Davy Crocket and the old Mickey Mouse cartoons. That's how Vault Disney used to be. Not with all those other cartoons (Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Lilo & Stitch, ect). That's what Toon Disney is for.

And why do you think Toon Disney is slowly becoming Jetix?

Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Lilo and Stitch would become homeless...or worse, buried in overnights on Disney Channel. Oh, they are? [sarcastic]Never mind.[/sarcastic] All of the available Disney movies that have aired on the old Disney Channel (and those when I last checked whose rights are owned at this point in time on Hallmark Channel) would air on Vault Disney.

Well, you know there is enough old film and made for tv materials locked in the vaults so to speak, you could have a Vault Disney Film channel alone... And have it play movies like AMC, TCM... And not to any thing else...
