  • James Bond 21: Casino Royale

So it looks like Ian Fleming's first James Bond novel is going to be the next movie in the series. No word yet if Pierce Brosnan is coming back. Here's the article:
    Bond Bets on Casino Royale

At least it has a good title. I just wonder how faithful they'll be to the book since it's not the most action packed in the series.
"Do it for me then. Your gaming buddies are going to be there too. It will be good for you kids to go out and blow the stink off yourselves for one night."

"Fine. For you. And for the eradication of stink."

It's a near certainty that Pierce will not be back as Bond. He had some kind of falling out with the producers some time ago and it's been a will he or won't he ever since. Not his choice, theirs. Most recent indications are that he has decided to move on (has even hinted at an interest in resurrecting Remington Steele for a film version).

Just about every actor working today who has an accent has been mentioned as a possible new Bond. It's been reported that they wish to go younger. Some of the better known names that have been mentioned are Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman, Dougray Scott, and Eric Bana. It's basically the new rumor every day game so I'm not putting any faith into a name until I see an official studio anouncement.

The real shame here is that Brosnan and Quentin tarantino were the ones who proposed the idea of doing Casino Royale. Pierce would have loved to make this his final outing as Bond and go out with a bang, but it seems it's not to be.

I hope they do better this time. The first Casino Real was a little too campy for Bond.

I would definitely go see Hugh Jackman as Bond.

I'm thinking Hugh has a few too many projects lined up already and would not have time to squeeze this in. My bet would be with one of the slightly lesser known candidates.

If Quentin Tarantino directed the next bond I would poo my pants, mainly because I can't do the other thing I want to without the boards sensoring my post!

Brosnan said that he would only be in the next Bond movie if QT directed it, but it looks like the producers shot that down, so it has a slim to none chance of happening. Although, the ironic thing is that QT said he would only need about $16 million for the movie (for a BOND movie!), and of course it would be a sure-fire hit. Don't you just love movie execs?
Trivia: On April Fool's Day 2004, Disneyland guests found -- at the insistence of the board of directors -- the gigantic dragon featured in Fantasmic replaced with a gigantic Roy Disney (leading to a reprimand to the cast member playing Mickey Mouse when he hugged the giant instead of fighting it)
