They makes "gobs of money" stripmining the wallets of those who visit them and become addicted to playing. Bad idea.

Well, we could have suspected something like this was coming from recent trial balloons on the net.

So what is Anaheim to do but legalize gambling to compete with Shelbyville? Then Disney gets in...? Or does Disney help design the Garden Grove casinos?

No, actually good idea. Remember who took their land and made gobs of money stripmining and selling it, and became addicted to money and power.

"a promise of a college scholarship for every high school graduate in Garden Grove."

If this is a REAL promise, there's no way the city can say no.

People would move to the city just so their kids can get a free eduction.

For that reason it's a good idea.

Just to play devils advocate... if a drug kingpin moved in and offered the same.. would you turn a blind eye for the same reward?

Note also it said 'scholarship' not 'full ride' The article quotes 'could be [...] up to 2,500 annually'.

Wait a second ... when we were voting to have indian casinos, one of the things they said was that there wouldn't be "Vegas Style" casinos in urban areas ... Of course, I didn't believe it for a second, but that sure didn't take long.

Build it! I think it would be cool if Disney helped design it!

That would be cool. The themeing would be perfect if Disney did it. But outside of Anaheim, the only property IMO that Disney really would be interested in is some land for a DVC at one of the local beaches.

Gambling, prostitution and drugs should be legalized in all 50 states... and I'm not kidding. It's time that we, as a country, grew up.

Garden Grove would be wise to disallow this casino venture. The guy proposing it has little credibility, provides no stats for his profit numbers, has no solid finacial backing and is trying to pull a fast one in the legislature to get a bill passed so his tribe can be recognized by the state and his "tribe" can build it. There were no tribe members interviewed save the attorney who is suing the developer.

I'll bet the casino would have to rely on locals just like Disney does at the moment. Since there are no table games, I imagine the jobs will mostly be low wage. The claims are just to big to deliver.

Garden Grove's best bet was to get the San diego tribe's casino built because at least that had the backing of Steve Wynn.

Keep in mind that with casinos come gambling addictions and encourages alcohol addiction because if you get people mellow they will not pay attetion and lose more. If they agree on it they better get lots of Gamblers Anonymous groups. There will be a lot of broken lives.

I agree on the legalized prostitution and some drugs.

                              I live in Reno, NV.
