  • Upscale bowling coming to Anaheim mall - OC Register, 9/7/07

A high-end bowling center, complete with an executive chef, private lanes and concierge, will be part of the entertainment options at an upcoming mall near Disneyland.

AMF Bowling Centers Inc. chose the under-construction Anaheim GardenWalk for its first 300 bowling center in California. Six other 300 locations are up in the United States. All but Anaheim were converted from old bowling alleys.
Merrell Wreden, an AMF spokesman, said the 300 clubs are more elaborate than the similar Lucky Strike Lanes, a chain of lounge-like bowling alleys with a location at The Block at Orange, offering more lanes and private areas.

"It's kind of like Lucky Strike on steroids," said Bill Stone, a principal in the GardenWalk project. "It's not too often that you can go bowling and have sushi."

As the bowling alley will be close to the Anaheim Convention Center, meeting planners and convention-goers are expected to use 300's private lanes for parties and events. More than half of 300's revenue comes from group events, Wreden said.

The 300 club is expected to be part of GardenWalk's May grand opening. Some restaurants are set to open in November.
Looks like the main target will be companies attending Convention Center events and trying to get them to rent out part or all of the facility.
