  • Why did Walden Media rename The Dark is Rising?

Anybody know why thy renamed the The Dark is Rising movie to The Seeker: The Dark is Rising? I was looking forward to this movie when they first announced it but this title change perplexes me. Are they planning to make all five books from the Susan Cooper series into movies, and if so why did they call it The Seeker?

Fox has an option to continue 'The Dark is Rising' sequence of books.
Don't have an answer for you on title addition at this time (assuming it better supplies an identifying character to the overall potential audience unfamiliar with the books) but found this description:
Starring are Ian McShane, Frances Conroy, Christopher Eccleston, Gregory Smith, Jonathan Jackson and Alexander Ludwig as Will Stanton, the film's 13-year-old central character who discovers he's actually someone called The Seeker with special powers to find where the power of the Light is hidden at a time when the Dark is rising and must be defeated.

    Dark Is Now The Seeker

The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising
is the new name of the movie from Fox Walden based on the second of Susan Cooper's five fantasy books. The studio made the change on July 27.

Originally titled simply The Dark Is Rising, the movie is being adapted by writer John Hodge (Trainspotting) and director David L. Cunningham ("The Path to 9/11"). It opens Oct. 5.
