  • Disney.com Sees Record Visitor Traffic in August

After conquering the music charts, cable TV and DVD sales, the High School Musical phenomenon can now take credit for helping drive record-setting traffic to Disney.com. On Wednesday, Disney reported 23.03 million unique visitors viewed the family-friendly site in August, its highest month ever. That High School Musical 2 debuted on The Disney Channel the same month is no small coincidence. Disney.com increased its hit count by 12 percent over July 2007 and 24 percent over August of last year.

Disney.com was also named one of the top five websites on AdWeekMedia's Digital Hot List, which recognizes innovative sites with "buzz worthy content."

"We believe these traffic milestones are evidence that the site is delivering on our goal of providing an immersive entertainment destination for kids and families,” said Paul Yanover, executive vice president of The Walt Disney Internet Group and head of Disney Online.

"Going forward, our focus will continue on increasing visitor engagement with our site and its wide range of special entertainment features, such as Disney.com XD and its 'my channel' publishing tools and our virtual worlds."

Disney overhauled its website and launched the new Disney.com in February 2007. The site introduced themed "channels" based on classic characters, Pirates of the Caribbean and Disney Princesses, among others. It also debuted Disney XD, a customizable Disney fan page where registered users could add Disney videos, music, games, graphics and other interactive items.

Future plans for Disney.com include creating new international versions of the website for foreign markets and further integrating it with mobile networks and handheld game systems.

Blatant propaganda! Because according to some MiceChat members, the Disney brand is in deep trouble...

And we all know MiceChatters are infallible.

I'm more inclined to believe that 23.03 million web users can't all be wrong.

I'm inclined to believe that 22.81 million people have not yet found MiceChat (at least in August).
