Anne Sweeney, prexy of the Disney-ABC television group, will be part of a presidential delegation to the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics Summer Games next week in China, the White House announced.
The 10-member delegation -- to be led by Dept. of Education secretary Margaret Spellings -- includes well-known sports figures as well as diplomats and Special Olympics officials.
Sweeney is a board member of Special Olympics. When the White House learned that she planned to attend the Oct. 2 ceremonies in that capacity, she was invited to become part of the delegation.
Others in the delegation include former figure skating champion Michelle Kwan, baseball Hall of Famer Ernie Banks, Special Olympics founder Eunice Kennedy Shriver and Clark T. Randt Jr., U.S. ambassador to China.
