  • Jane Austen Book Club

I just saw it and I loved it!

I was a little skeptical after re-reading the book this summer because they definitely cast actresses that are far younger than the characters in the book. But aside from that, I really liked it!

It was really well-written and acted, and there were some big laughs. Great ending. I think whoever wrote the script made the movie even more Austen-esque than the book.

Wow. No one has seen this but me?

I took my 12 year old Jane Austen-loving daughter to see it last night after I'd seen it and deemed it okay for her (I wouldn't let her read the book, but the movie was tamer). She loved it so much.

I liked it even better the second time, since I was able to enjoy the movie for itself and not constantly compare it to the book. Even if you don't like Jane Austen, it's still a perfect chick flick. I'll be adding it to my DVD collection.

I really wanted to see this, but it was only playing in one theater for a couple of weeks (I didn't discover until the last 2 days it was there) and now it's gone ...I guess this will be on my "must rent" list when it comes out on DVD.

It's not playing up here! It will be on my renting list.

Yup. Has to go on my must rent list. Never made it here. I'm still holding hope that it might show up at our indie theater at some point.

I wish I could have seen it, but like my fellow posters, it was only playing in a few theaters near me and now it is gone. I'll have to put it in my Netflix queue. I'm reading the book now and enjoying it.

I just read the book so I will watch the movie ( I honestly wasn't that crazy about the book) BUT the movie doesn't look to strictly faithful to the book because the actors are younger AND I didn't see Allegra in the trailer I believe????

Allegra is played by Maggie Grace. But Amy Brenneman is still too young to be her mom in the movie. Esp. since she's supposed to have older brothers in college.

And after re-reading the book this summer, I think the movie is actually better than the book. How often can you say that?
