  • Buena Vista Productions signs first-look deal with Silverback

    BV Prods. golden with Silverback

Disney-owned Buena Vista Prods. has signed a first-look deal with Anna Carrfors Brakenhielm's company, Silverback, as part of a strategic effort to ramp up production on reality projects that can be utilized across the entire TV group, including broadcast, cable, syndication and online.

The agreement with Silverback, which is effective immediately, gives BVP the U.S. domestic rights to all content, formats and series developed by the company.

Silverback, which focuses on developing and producing international formats for TV and cross-media platforms, was founded as Talpa Scandinavia but parted from Dutch media mogul John de Mol's Talpa Media Holding after a management buyout this year.

Its most recent international formats include "Missing Link," "King of the Road," "Stable Stars," "Apocalypse Now," "West End Star," "Stars on Air," "The New World," "Improvisation Attack," "Yoga Boost Camp," "33 Famous Places," "Editor in Chief" and "Lost in Adaptation."

Brakenhielm also headed Modern Times Group's Scandinavia-based production company Strix Television for more a decade, where she produced the original "Survivor."

Brian Frons, president of daytime at Disney-ABC Television Group, who oversees BVP along with ABC Daytime and SoapNet, praised Brakenhielm and her colleagues at Silverback.

"The partnership will strengthen our capabilities as Anna and her team have had tremendous success in creating programming that is innovative, unique and groundbreaking," he said. "She is brilliant at producing European formats that resonate with American audiences."

BVP's credits in the reality arena include the syndicated "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," Sci Fi Channel's "Run for Money," Court TV's "Inside: Video Wars" and SoapNet's "The Fashionista Diaries."

"The fact of being European in the most important TV market in the world demands for the best partner in the field to translate our creative ideas to U.S. taste and flavor," Brakenhielm said. "In BVP, we have found just that."
