  • The big ooh - Orange County Register, 7/15/05

Walt Disney dreamed the idea for Disneyland, but it took an army of innovators to build a place where people could step inside a story.

Disney tapped the best artists and risk-takers in his film studio to transform their two-dimensional fantasy worlds into a real place. When they got flustered, unsure of exactly what they were making, they got this command from Disney: "Just do something that people will like."

They persisted, melding technology and creativity to produce attractions and a whimsical ambience that gave the world a new playground. They created a place where adults and children could fly with Peter Pan, tumble through Alice's Looking Glass or go back in time with Tom Sawyer.

But innovation wasn't limited to the fun stuff. It changed everything from ticket pricing to trash cans that hid the trash.
