Disney gives 2 Million Dollars to SoCal wildfire relief!

The Walt Disney Company on Wednesday afternoon just donated 2 Million dollars to help wildfire vicitms in Southern California. That's a huge donation right off the bat. Band of America donated 1 Million, as a comparison to other large California based companies.

Rumors were going around the park today that TDA was trying to quickly pull together a group of CM's, goodwill ambassadors, Characters, Nemomobile, etc. to drive down tomorrow to Qualcomm Stadium and other San Diego emergency centers to help keep the kids entertained in the shelters. Hope that can work out, as it would be great to see fellow Disneylanders head out and spread the magic beyond the parks. But the 2 Million bucks from Burbank is awesome too!

Way to go Disney! I'm sure this will help in many ways. Although 2 million may seem like allot, its really not compared to all the damage. I'm sure that it can only equal to about 4 homes destroyed in the fire. Very sad. Prayers go out to the families, my parents home in San Bernardino luckily was spared, but the flames came within 30 feet. Very scary.

The value of the house is not the cost of building one. This will probably build 10 houses.

This won't be used to build new houses in upper-middle class neighborhoods. From the news reports...

"Starting Thursday, Disney said it would provide $200,000 in donations to the American Red Cross for immediate relief efforts.
The rest of the money would be distributed later on a case-by-case basis to groups for rebuilding and restoration efforts, which might include replanting trees or replacing burned parks and community centers."

Disney is a class act.

Wal-Mart has donated $1 million in cash to the Red Cross for Fire Relief, and sent over $400,000 in needed supplies to relief centers and firefighter rest areas.

Wal-Mart has a plan in place, and pretty much sends an order to the nearest distribution center of items that have been predetermined, such as bottled water, diapers, baby food, etc. and then has the trucks go directly to the sites where the supplies are needed. And they can get it done very quickly.

If you are looking to donate, the LA Times has announced a matching fund program, for every $1 sent to them for Fire Relief, they will match it at 50 cents on the dollar, up to $500,000. So if they hit the maximum, that is over $1.5 million in aid. (LA Times will pick up all the administrative costs)
