I wonder what Walt "really" thought of The Wizard of Oz

According to what I've read, Walt Disney was the unwitting incentive behind getting the film started. Louis B. Mayer was determined to come up with something that would equal the success of Disney's runaway smash, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which had become the most successful film of all time in a matter of months.

I've not read much else. It's the closest thing I know of that can compete with Walt's early films.

It was innovative, fun, simple and fanciful. I honestly believe Walt could have done it better, and I'm not even sure how.

i don't know about walt but i'll tell you what i thought of the "wizard of oz"...IT STUNK! i can't stand that movie! now wicked? i can't say a bad word about it

yeah, I'm not a wizard of oz fan. It's really boring and I have never watched the whole movie straight through. To be honest I have never seen the whole movie.

Walt did buy the rights to the series of books, and he was
planning on making a movie. This was at the same time that
the Mickey Mouse Club was on, and Annette was to have the
role of Dorothy. They even televised a "preview" for the
"upcoming movie" on the Mickey Mouse Club. Unfortunately,
things fell through. Walt did eventually make a different movie,
and that turned out to be "Babes in Toyland".

I love the Wizard of Oz! Wicked's good too, but the Wizard of Oz is a classic, and much better IMO. Walt loved the stories. And I thought it was Ozma of Oz (is that what it's called?) that he wanted to make with Annette, with her playing the part of Ozma, not dorothy. But then Babes and Toyland worked out instead.

Disney did eventually make 1985's Return to Oz and then 2005's made-for-TV The Muppets' Wizard of Oz.

The Storybook Land Canal Boats at Disneyland Paris features the Emerald City, based on the version depicted in Return to Oz.

Wicked I LOVED!!

Wizard of Oz is a great movie. I have seen it many times all the way through. Gone With The Wind on the other hand I find really boring and have never watched the whole movie straight through. I have tried to whenever it comes on TV but I just can't get myself to sit for that whole time. It's almost like I am sitting there and thinking, "I could be doing something else."

I have never seen Wicked.
