What's that "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly"? Never even heard of it.

I think the biggest surprise is the nominations for Michael Clayton for best picture.

And when is the Acadamy going to stop giving nominations just because somebody's name? This year that has to go to Cate Blanchett for Elizabeth. By all accounts, a rather nothing movie, with a performance that wasn't heralded. But because it's Cate Blanchett she get's the nomination.

Julian Schnabel is the hot, cool pick for this year, he's an famous artist. He's already won a few Best Director awards this season.

'Michael Clayton' was probably the best film of the year overall until 'No Country for Old Men' & 'There Will Be Blood' were released. All of the performances were flawless, as was the script and all of its production elements.

WOW....Enchanted is 3 out of the 5 nominations for original song?! Don't they usually do a performance of each song nominated? Does that mean it's going to be an "Enchanted" night at the Oscars? :yea:

Hopefully they won't just cancel each other out.

My personal pick is for "How will he know".

I'm actually kinda hoping the 3 songs from Enchanted do cancel each other out. My pick in that category is Falling Slowly from Once. I've recently fallen in love with both the film and its songs.

Though, I must say that I'm at least happy that the majority of the nominated songs this year are integral parts of the films they represent. That holds much more weight with me than the songs that are only included in credits for the sake of a nomination.

Man, I bet the guy who wrote the Rolling Stone article about the Best Songs for the Oscars is annoyed that Enchanted got three nominations. inch:

I can't believe Juno got a best picture nod over some others like Sweeney Todd and Into the Wild.

Sweeney Todd wasn't all that likely to get a Best Picture nod, it was considered too violent for most Academy voters who are a much older group that Sweeney doesn't appeal to.

Also, judging by the overall lack of nominations for Into the Wild, including nothing in the original song category, I'm guessing the Academy didn't really care for it all that much.
