    To all:

I had an idea earlier today regarding MiceChat's reputation point scoring system. The reputation system currently shows who has given the reputation. What I'd like to see happen is make it so only Administrators and Moderators can see who has given the reputation. This would help people feel easier about possibly giving "bad" reputation, whereas now someone may not help the boards by posting negative reputation for fear of retaliation.

Please, let me know what you think, MiceChat.

    Take care,
    Joe

Actually, the current system only lets you see who gave positive rep. Negative rep only shows the comment, but not who gave it to you.

This was in response for fear of retaliation.

That IS the way our reputation system is supposed to work. Are you able to see "Who" gives you negative rep? If so, that is not the way that the system should be working. Please let us know.

      Thank you!

The only time I received negative reputation was actually when someone retaliated against me giving "them" negative rep. However, this was a couple years ago (I think). The system may be different now, but I wouldn't know since I haven't received negative reputation since the one incident mentioned above.

        Thanks for the replies, guys!

        Take care,
        Joe

          Joe,

I think we only can see the postitive rep comments and the names of who gives them to us... I think only the forum admins can see the bad rep comment and the bad rep givers' names. But I'm not 100% sure about that.

If you want to try it out (I'm curious too), feel free to give me a bad rep with a comment. Then post here that you've done it, and I'll post the results if I can see anything.

Thanks for the offer. I'll hold off, though, until I get permission from an Administrator or Moderator to do such a test. I'm very curious to see if the system has changed since my "incident."

              Thanks!

From what i understand, you can see the neg rep comment but not WHO gave you the neg rep. For pos rep, you can see both who gave it to you and the comment.
                Good morning, son
                In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
                It was pain
                Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Let's find out. Please feel free to give Mr. Wiggins some neg rep (I'll reverse it later).

Thank you both for your help!

                    Re: Anonymous Reputation

FYI: Positive reputation always shows the full details of the Rep (who gave it, the description).

However, negative (an neutral) reputation NEVER appears in your User CP.

Thanks for giving me permission, Dusty. I've posted the pseudo-"negative" feedback.

I could never neg-rep Mr. Wiggins. He's given me at least 6 of his patented "BINGOS!"

                            Ha ha, very funny.

Thanks for letting me know about the results of our test. I just wanted to make sure things had changed in the system since a few years ago.

                              Re: Anonymous Reputation

Most excellent! All is well with the Universe.

Just as an FYI - we are in the progress of evaluating our new post voting system (currently only enabled in our "Parks" sections) as a possible replacement for our aging (and a bit too complicated) rep system.

So far, so good. We have a lot of little changes to make still and need to start rolling it out to more sections before we are able to make a final decision.

Until then, you can all help us out by voting up "Helpful" posts and voting down "Unhelpful" posts in those sections which allow post voting.

Honestly, there probably isn't a perfect solution. We simply want to encourage helpful posting and discourage trolling and hostility.

Just know that this is still on our radar and we are still very much interested in things we can do to encourage a more helpful and friendly MiceChat and keep this site from becoming a vast wasteland of bad language and hostility like much of the rest of the Internet has evolved into. And we'd like to do that with as much member interaction and as little moderating of our own as possible. Easy right?
