In the simplest terms that I can use. First of all, you need to have picture files on your computer. Then when you hit the Browse button, it brings up those files. From your picture files, you click on the one that you want, and then you click on Save Changes. The photo should then appear as your avatar.

Sometimes, especially if you are using an image housed on photobucket or other such site, you might try to "import" it and get a message saying "file too large". Then you go back to your source, and resize the image smaller, and it should work fine.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Also make sure that the image you are trying to use is a jpg or gif file. The file name should be followed by either of those two image tags at the end of the name of the file, such as penguinpicture.jpg or penguinpicture.gif.
Plus the image can only be 150 by 150 pixels or 128.0 KB (whichever is smaller).

You can also use an .png file
Good morning, son
In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
It was pain
Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things... sigpic

You can create your own avatar, but you will have to save the image as a image file, such as the ones listed above. Then once you have the file saved you can "point" to it on your desktop, or where ever its stored, and load it as your avatar.
Once you have the image saved, click on "User CP". When the next window opens up, look down on the left hand side and click on "edit avatar." Once you click on that a window will open up that will look something like this: (I have a Mac, your screen might look a little different)
Click where it says "choose file." This should open up another window to either your desktop or where every on your computer your files are kept. From there just search out where the file is (might be easiest to put it on your desktop to find it fast), select the image, then click on "save changes."
