  • Too many duplicate posts.

This has been happening quite a lot to me today. Duplicate posts. I had it happen in the visitor messages, in the regular forums, and then it also happened in a MiceClub.

I also find that when scrolling past the first post on a page, that the scroll is very difficult. Then once I get past the first post, it seems more normal.

Just a few oddities that I have noticed.

        Ha ha!

It's true though, it happened to me this morning. I was enthusiastic in my post, but I didn't need to post it 5 times!

I'm looking into it. I think it might be that since there's a lock on the search table when its updating the search indexes, it hangs a new post, so people click submit multiple times.

            Re: Too many duplicate posts.

I've never had the vbulletin devs ever admit there is a problem here (even in the 3.8 series) yet there are countless reports of such behavior. We gave up trying to pursue it as it seems to get better/worse on its own no matter what we did to try to mitigate it. vbulletin team never would accept a support ticket on it unless you ran your board in completely vanilla fashion which of course is unpractical. I still get tons of PMs on vbulletin.com where people ask 'did you find a solution?' from my previous threads.

We originally thought it was when people keep hitting submit while not waiting for the page - which can cause it - but is not limited to it. You can submit only once and still still it. Not only that, you can see your post posted and live, from another browser while waiting for the post submission to complete sitting, taking forever, on the original poster's window. Yet vbulletin's own duplicate protection feature doesn't catch the duplicate post.

To this day I don't believe the company has acknowledged a systematic problem here.

              Re: Too many duplicate posts.

As I suspected, the new Sphinx search was locking the delta_search table, and causing the duplicate posts. I've update the table to InnoDB so it doesn't lock anymore, and the search can rebuild correctly.

Let me know if you see anymore.

                Re: Too many duplicate posts.

happened to me today while clicking 'post quick reply' - but the forum's posting timer caught it. It redirected me to the edit page and gave the warning that the forum limited posting to 30sec intervals, blah blah. I only clicked the 'post quick reply' once.

I believe this is happening due to the heavy and clunky teal-colored ad with Pluto. When a different ad comes up, the problem doesn't occur on my end.
