Auto-play Ads on the bottom of Micechat pages?

What's with the auto-playing political video ads at the bottom of Micechat pages?

Embedded in the webpage all the way at the bottom of the page.. is a political ad video that auto-plays on every page load

From the page layout..

It looks horribly suspicious so I thought maybe I had a local PC issue going on.. but I only see it on Micechat, and independent of browser.

Is this truely from the Micechat page? Autoplaying videos?

I get them too. They are awful, annoying, distracting, and I don't care for their message.

I don't see any ads anymore thanks to Safari blocking them.

I've never seen these.

Are they on certain boards? They may not be showing up because of my browser blocking themt oo.

its very recent.. in the last few days.. its stuck at the very bottom even below the footer of the forum. very very wierd.. as almost unintentional. which is why at first I thought I had a browser hijack going on

Something happened with the Ad Network that we were on. We've let them know, and they've pulled the ads. Thanks for the report!

Maybe I should list this as another issue, but what is "platform.stumbleupon.com"?

I would like to read Kevin Yee's column, but that keeps erasing the page for some reason.

This is the first report I've heard of this. What's your browser and OS combination?

Windows 7, Firefox 3.0.019. Happened again this morning when trying to access SamLand.

^ Just a suggestion (dunno if it will help), you might want to update your Firefox. Latest version is 15.0.

I suppose I should. The workaround for now is to let the page load, then hit refresh and stop. Eventually I can just read the article. Worked fine till last week though, so something has changed.

Firefox 3.0 hasn't been supported since March 30, 2010, about 2 and a half years ago - therefore it's not supported by MiceChat. There are several known major security issues with Firefox 3.0 as well. You should really upgrade.

There are now auto-play ads being inserted in the banner spot at the top right of the forums area too.

Several times now I've gotten audio+video ads that play automatically when the page loads. This are horrible and NEED TO GO.

The last one was some airwick ad..

The problem with that is based on mice chats layout.. Adblock screws up the menu bars. Plus I don't like blocking all ads which serve a purpose for the site. I just dont like obtrusive ads and especially auto playing videos

I agree and thank you for understanding that the ads are what help keep this place alive.

I have a small screen and sometimes I'll be scrolled down the page before the ad starts to play... its startling and extremely annoying. Hopefully Monorail Man will be able to do something about those too when he as some time.

I leave the ads on while viewing this site. The site is not some soulless corperation, these ads represent real money for its owners and I'm happy to give my pageviews & pennies to them.

I've put in a complaint with our advertising agency. As usual, we don't control the content of the ads, but can make improvements and suggestions.

For those of you that don't use Adblock, thank you!
