It's the amount of reputation you 'dish' out for every click. When you give negative reputation, that amount is halfed. Full details are still in the FAQ.

Hmm... never was even remotely aware of this? So the community chooses who is outcast (along with the approval by the local mayor... aka admin?)

I don't understand the logic of hurting someone for giving negative rep. Wouldn't that deter people from actually using both sides of the scale? If everyone ONLY gives positive rep.. what good is a A+ grade if everyone in the class gets an A+?

..and since I already looked under the rock.. I'll toss out again.. since rep points are based in part on post count.. another great reason why fun & games shouldn't count towards post count

There's no hurting involved. The idea is that a while after one builds a reputation on MiceChat (many Level Points), a negative reputation won't hurt them (since it's only Half of the givers' Power points). The whole point of the reputation system is to help us keep trolls away from the boards, who do nothing but stir up trouble on their first few points.

            For example:

Member A is a longtime MC member, and has 10,000 level points.

Member B is another longtime member who has 6,000 level points.

Member C is a new member, and has 10 level points.

Member B posts a message that is out of line, so Member A gives negative reputation. Since Member A has 100 Power Points, Member B's reputation level points are now 5,950 (since the amount of Power points is halved).

Member C posts many posts that are trollish in nature, so member A decides to give negative reputation to Member C. Member C now has -40 points, and is a 'Litter Box' user (under 0 level points).

            Make Sense?

ok, i get it, so giving Neg. repdoesn't actually cut your power points in half, it only gives out half the number

i.e. Member A has 100 power points, so he neg. reps. Member B, lowering his rep 50 points. However, Member A still has 100 Power Points

                  correct?

correct... your points don't go down, the other members rep and probably power points will lower...

If a positive point gets on the train and leaves the station headed west at 46 mile per hour while drinking a margarita, and a negative point drives his car north at 65 miles per hour while talking on his cell phone how long will it take before the two collide on an alternate plane of existance and cause this thread to end up in the litter box?
