  • EVENT: D23's Candlelight Spectacular at Disneyland - Dec 6, 2009

D23 has posted their holiday events. Here is the information on the Candlelight event:

    D23's Candlelight Spectacular at Disneyland

    Sunday, December 6, 2009

The day begins at 10 a.m. when guests can begin checking in. Theme park admission is included so you can enjoy all the holiday splendor and merriment of Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure at your own pace. You'll enjoy reserved seating at Disneyland's perennial favorite, A Christmas Fantasy Parade, and expect a few more surprises as well!

As night falls, you'll gather inside Stage 17 at Disney's California Adventure where a winter wonderland awaits. Make sure you don't eat too many holiday treats during the day, because Disneyland's Executive Chef has prepared a dazzling, sumptuous holiday feast for you to enjoy with your fellow D23 members. As you dine, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Pluto and their pals — all decked out in their holiday finery — will keep you in the highest of holiday spirits with special entertainment that will have you humming and singing along!

Following dinner, you'll be escorted to your reserved seats for the Candlelight Processional and Ceremony, where you'll experience the breathtaking majesty of this retelling of the Christmas story. Hosted by a celebrity narrator and performed by the Disneyland Orchestra, the Disney Employee Choir (which makes up the ceremony's iconic living Christmas tree), bell choirs, trumpeters and a chorus of hundreds, the ceremony's powerful music, traditional carols and poignant words will leave you with an even greater appreciation for the true meaning of Christmas.

At the conclusion of Candlelight, the evening continues as you are escorted back at Stage 17 for more holiday merriment. As you enjoy a sweet treat and some warm cocoa, the magic-makers at Disneyland will offer our guests a very special "behind-the-candles" look at the history of holiday traditions at Disneyland, as well as the special care and work that goes into making the parks look their best for the season. The team responsible for producing the Candlelight Ceremony will also join us to share their experiences and a surprise or two, and the Disney Employee Choir will entertain you with a rousing sing-along of your favorite carols in a toe-tapping medley that will close the evening on the right note. As you depart from this truly wonderful, once-in-a-lifetime experience, remember that D23 members never go home empty-handed, especially during the holidays! 'Tis better to give!

    EVENT DETAILS:
    Date: Sunday, December 6, 2009
Time: Check in begins at 10am
    Location: Disneyland, Anaheim, Calif.
Tickets: Tickets will be available Thursday, October 15 at 10 a.m. PST. Members may bring up to three guests.
    Cost: $275 per person

Included with the cost of your ticket:
    • A one-day Disneyland park hopper ticket. (Ticket is good only for use on December 6, 2009 and must be used by ticket purchaser.)
    • Private dinner and dessert inside Stage 17
    • Exclusive holiday show featuring your favorite Disney characters
    • Reserved seating for Candlelight Processional and Ceremony
    • Behind-the-scenes presentation about Candlelight and Disneyland at the holidays — with a "sweet treat"
    • Special gift for all guests from your friends at D23!

UPDATED 10/30/2009 - Here's a little tease about Candlelight I found in a D23 interview with Senior Show Director Denny Newell:
You're directing the stage show that's a part of D23's Candlelight Spectacular. What can you tell us about it?
I can tell you that we are bringing back a classic favorite that I got to direct when we first did it in the park, Minnie's Christmas Party. We're in the middle of the casting process now. We're hoping to get some returning Cast Members to reprise their roles. It's a return to classic Disney character shows. It really is a heartwarming story with six classic Disney characters, two singers and lots of Christmas songs — and snow! And there will be photo locations available for guests to pose with some of their favorite Disney character in their holiday best. $275 a person?!?!

That's some exclusive, generous offer. I'm not going to have any trouble at all giving up my D23 membership.

I totally read that wrong I scanned it and took from it that 275 gets you and three other people covered, 275 each? I cant do that. Im already a AP so the tickets into the park really does not interest me, So I will pass on this time.

I also feel bad for the D23 employees, Its not really there fault it seems there trying to bring us the most magic that they have to work with. For what the park cost to rent and the fees they probally would have had to have charged us 500 each instead of 75. I might go and check it out because I have never been, but I will just go and watch from a distance. I still cant wait for my first d23 experience as a member. Soon enough. The next question will I renew My D23 Membership next year?

Well, the ticket price is high. But the event will be very limited in tickets available and does include dinner and behind the scenes tour.

I doubt that D23 is making any money on this particular event. By the time they are done paying the parks for all the rental space, food, tour guides, etc. this is probably a very good deal for D23 members who love the holidays and Candlelight in particular.

Not on my list, but I know that the folks who love Candlelight will dig it.

          uhhh... wow... a little expensive?
I just bought my husband a D23 membership this month for his birthday... are all the events this expensive or do they vary? That would be terrible if we couldn't enjoy at least a couple during the course of the year. But $275/person at Christmas time with all the kiddies to buy for? Not gonna happen...
Sounds fun and festive though!! Make sure to post some pictures for the rest of us if anyone is going!!

I can't afford that. If I could give the one day park hopper away then i could consider it.

Didn't they learn their lesson from the feedback for the Sip and Stroll event? I have a PAP and they're forcing people that want to go to buy 1 day park hopper tickets, and they're non-transferrable!

I don't envy the D23 folks. Seems like they're trying hard to get these really cool events lined up, but then they have to get a price tag on it. The problem is that from the outside, it just looks like a clever trick by Disney to charge $75 for a club so that club can charge you $300 for event tickets.

And then the free events sell out instantly...

I'm still pretty happy with my D23 membership... but I'm sure that there are plenty others who are pretty disenchanted. I do not envy the D23 folks, because I think they have really good intentions...

It seems that with few exceptions (the Up! screening) the free events are extremely limited and sell out online within seconds. The paid events are all way up there. However, the Food and Wine event in Florida was selling so slow they added a bunch of perks that made the offer almost attractive. My guess is the same thing will happen to this event if sales are slow.

And that's that many fewer spots open for non-members getting a dinner package to see the show.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

This lesson was learned long ago by WD Event Services. For events that include park tix, AP holders are given a discount equal to a one-day/park ticket. D23 needs to catch on.

I definitely think at $275, it's way too expensive and not until Disneyland posts up their normal prices, we won't be able to compare if this would be a deal or no deal.

Personally, I feel that I am being cheated since WDW's event is only $200 and offers so much more. If the Disneyland event could be dropped to $200 and be 2 days instead of one, throw in a "D23 lounge" somewhere (if possible since I can't think of a good place to put it for now), reserved seats for a parade (or better yet, fireworks or fantasmic), and a tour of the Dream Suite (or call me crazy, but a Club 33 tour would also be fun). If that can be pulled off for $200, then I'd start considering it. Also the WDW tickets don't need to be used the day of, which is a nice thing to do.

                                Just my thoughts.

I really wish I could do this, but that's the cost of my Deluxe AP, which I have to renew in December! I can't wait to see what the gift is!

I wonder if one can use the tickets included to be put towards an upgrade for an AP...

And if so, are they park hoppers or single park.

If you already own an annual pass, it's tough to justify nearly 300 bucks for dinner and a show, even when you throw in the characters, guides, etc, etc. It seems that this event is tailored to those who probably wouldn't think twice about dropping three bills on a nice dinner and a holiday concert.

Then there's folks like me. inch:

And me. Who is collecting recycling to put into a jar for my "Mouse Fund" for Disneyland trips. Even if they took off the price of the ticket, I'd still be hard pressed to have the money to fork over for this.

But at least they are trying to do something special for the members. Its just this is something for a different class of member than I belong in. But like ryanvalle said... even if I had the money I'd be more inclined to fork it over if there was more to it than just dinner and a show and some little gift of some kind.
