Special Preview Screening of Secretariat - September 13th, 2010

D23 has announced a special opportunity to screen the new film, Secretariat, nearly a month before it opens in theaters:

D23 and Walt Disney Pictures Present a Special Preview Screening of Secretariat
    DATE
    Monday, September 13, 2010

    LOCATION
Studio Theatre, The Walt Disney Studios
    Burbank, California

    TICKETS
Available next Tuesday, August 31, at noon PDT. Check back here at that time for ticketing information.

    COST
    Free

    SCHEDULE
Check in begins at 6 p.m.; Screening begins at 6:30 p.m. (please do not arrive at the Studio Lot before 6 p.m.)

Our friends at Walt Disney Studios are offering D23 Members and their families an exclusive sneak peek at Secretariat, the remarkable true story of horse racing's legendary 1973 Triple Crown winner. The movie will be shown at the historic Studio Theatre on the Walt Disney Studio Lot.

The beautiful and emotional film tells the story of housewife and mother Penny Chenery (Diane Lane), who agrees to take over her ailing father's Virginia-based Meadow Stables, despite her lack of horse-racing knowledge. Against all odds, Chenery — with the help of veteran trainer Lucien Laurin (John Malkovich) — manages to navigate the male-dominated business, ultimately fostering the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years and what may be the greatest racehorse of all time.

The film strives for authenticity, and Penny Chenery, now 87, was an important resource during the making of the film. Secretariat is directed by Randall Wallace, whose directorial credits include We Were SoldiersBraveheart.

Please note, no cameras of any kind will be permitted inside the theater. This includes still cameras, video cameras and cell phones with built in cameras. We suggest you leave these in your car, or you will be asked to check them in the lobby of the theater.

Secretariat arrives in theaters nationwide on October 8, but D23 Members and their guests get to see this unforgettable film nearly a month before the general public!

I'm very excited about this film. Won't be able to attend the studio screening, but I will not miss the opportunity to see it at my local cinema.

What an awesome privelege for D23 members. Would be heading to the studio screening of Secretariat at full gallop if I could. What an amazing race horse, and dramatic story! Alas, I'm stuck in the stable on this one. Next year, I hope to stop horsing around and become a D23 member as I it appears to me that Disney will be extending many different kinds of unique opportunities in the future.

A number of word-of-mouth screenings are scheduled to be held at the studio, as well as at varoius theatres throughout Southern California. Nice that they threw one to D23.

It will be interesting to see how fast the tickets go for this film, compared to Camp Rock!

I've seen some previews and honestly the film looks rather dull. We've been attending the 50 and fabulous screenings at the studio but I'm not sure if I'd bother with this one.

Interesting way of getting the tickets. At 12:05pm, I hope my email made it in time!

See you all there (or at Destination D)!

Yeah, that was a little different. Hope I got in! My dad is an avid horseracing fan and I would love to take him.

I have attended quite a few free preview screenings in the area and it will be interesting to see how a Disney one goes. I wonder if they will have the guys watching you with night vision goggles to make sure you don't record!

Did anyone NOT get a ticket who requested one?

I think they did tickets this way so that there was no way to tell if the film is perceived as unpopular? If the preview for this film had tickets available for days and days and days (like Camp Rock), that would then be a publicity disaster. (I don't think that Camp Rock ever sold out, but I could be wrong about that. But Tickets were available in a relative small theater for many, many days. Yikes!)

I saw someone during camp rock 2 come out with night vision binoculars. I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same for this.
