  • Absent-Minded Professor - A D23 Showing Trip Report

We had a lot of fun, and I was pretty surprised that there wasn't really any talk of any MiceChatters going to this 50 and Fabulous event hosted by D23 at the Walt Disney Studios...Anyways, here's my trip report, I didn't see a report anywhere else on the boards.

Can't miss this, coming down the street:

Showed up in our decked-out-Disney car:

Upon arriving at the studios, the wife and I were getting pretty excited when we saw the entrance gate, haha.

We thought it was hilariously cool that they have their own on-campus gas station and fire station:

Huge sign talking about the various stages:

    Classic:

Very excited, once we saw this D23 sign:

I want to be a member of this credit union (exclusively for Disney employees), ha:

'twould be nice to eat here:

Before the show started, folks were invited to go over to the Walt Disney Studio Store for exclusive merchandise, which we ended up getting a few things:

...and more merchandise in the window, exclusive to Disney employes:

Finally decided to head over to the Studio Theatre to grab our free bottled waters and find some seats:

And people leaving, after the conclusion:

Little bit'a Disney-bling around, that we noticed:

    Random employee computer, ha:

Classic: Many'a disney legends having taken their picture here, including the Sherman Bros. and Walt himself. We took my picture there too, but it turned out, bad, haha. I'll probably take more at the Studio tour next month.

After the showing, everyone was invited to see the rest of the Disney Studio Store, which made it awkwardly packed:

Very cool theming, all over and their dvd/blu-ray section puts Disney parks and regular Disney store to shame:

On the way out, we noticed the huge Jiminy sign promoting environmentality, the bicycles that certain employees ride, regularly, and headed back to the schnazzy(sp?) parking garage:

Overall, we definitely had a blast. It was my first ever time seeing a black&white movie at a theater. Great time. The comradery among D23'ers was refreshing, we all clapped and laughed at all the right moments and it felt like I was at a theatre during the 60s when movie-going was a completely different experience. I especially loved how they began with a classic Disney short, starring Donald Duck, "The Plastics Inventor", one of my favorites as a kid. Can't wait to go back to the studios in April for the next Studio Lot Tour.

Anyways, were any of you there? Speak up! haha. It was an event, where fun was had by all who attended, I would assume.

Thanks for sharing. I was caught up with work so I couldn't make it to this one (if only I worked for D23, I'd be more excited about working on a saturday), but for anybody reading, I highly recommend the 50 and fabulous events. It's a great way to get on the studio lot to see some classic Disney films, many of which I have not seen before.

      Once again, thanks for sharing.

Believe it or not, I remember seeing you. Just saw your vlog too, amusing stuff, ha. You should call yourself the Disney "Nerd" or "Dork" for blatant rip-off comedic purposes...

If you liked seeing that part of the studios you really need to do the D23 tour! It is awesome!

I bet the Parent Trap screening will be a hot ticket, such a classic!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I wish I could afford to join d23 and go to such cool events...but since I can't I appreciate being able to live vicariously through others experiences

Question. Can you bring in a camera and take pics or do you have to leave it in the car?

As you can tell by the great photos above, cameras are allowed except during the movie. Hope you can make it to a screening. It's a lot of fun!

Yeah, I was kind of worried when I went, so I ended up not bringing my nice camera, just relied on my cell phone. But trust me, I'll bring my professional camera when April 30th rolls around for the next studio tour
