  • Frank Navetta, guitarist for the Descendents, has died

It's a sad day in punk rock music history, kids.

The Desecendents were the soundtrack to my high school years. Their music is upbeat and cheerful, and it got me through many a dark day. I'm sad to say that on Friday, Oct 31, 2008 Frank Navetta passed away.

The Descendents' Milo Goes to College was a cornerstone for me when I was first getting into punk and really into music in general, a great fun band. The guitar work was a big part of that, Frank will be missed.

Everything Sucks and Somery were my two big ones. I loved the upbeat, positive tone of the music, especially in punk rock, which is heavy on the political messages and basically despair over the state of society. I think the Descendents were a huge influence on the genre, you can hear their echoes in Blink 182, NOFX, and many other really great neo punk bands.
