Steven Tyler has left Aerosmith

CBS is reporting that Aerosmith singer Stephen Tyler has left the band.

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry told the Las Vegas Sun on Friday that singer Steven Tyler left the band after their Abu Dhabi concert.

"Steven quit as far as I can tell," Perry told the Las Vegas Sun in a phone interview. "I don't know anymore than you do about it. I got off the plane two nights ago. I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don't know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than that, I don't know."

Perry was referring to an article by the British website Classic RockTyler has recently been missing from several Aerosmith concerts since falling of a stage during on of the band's performances.

Aerosmith, however, will continue without Tyler, Perry told Las Vegas Sun.

Wow ... and you can't have Aerosmith without Steven Tyler. Period.

That would be like Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant.

Yeah, there is no Aerosmith without Steven Tyler. I can see other members of the band doing thing own thing and finding some success, especially Joe Perry, but to call it Aerosmith without Steven would just be wrong.

Tell that to all those people who continue to see them live. Then again, the crowds at a Grateful Dead concert probably still see Jerry up there.

I wonder if they are going to change Rock 'n' Roller Coaster because of it.

Even if they don't do any future appearances or projects together, I would assume that all previous deals would still be in place. Those Aerosmith royalty checks will come in handy as they attempt to have careers beyond the band.

To my knowledge, Queen is still around without Freddie. But they are not as good, but they are still doing tours. the same can probably be said for Aerosmith.

Queen recently started up again with the lead singer of Bad Company if I'm not mistaken. Still not even close to what it was without Freddie Mercury. Same reason I'm not interested in Alice In Chains.

Exactly ... although I have heard that the new Alice in Chains album is REALLY good. I just can't picture it without Lane.

The ONLY band that has successfully changed lead singers and been as (or in this case more) successful was Genesis. They were more successful from a "popularity" standpoint with Phil Collins. Whether they were more successful from a music standpoint is still up to debate (although I do love a LOT of Collins era Genesis).

I liked em' better with Collins. Iron Maiden shot up when Bruce Dickenson took over. Also, Black Sabbath did well with Ronnie James Dio as well.

Good call on Maiden and Sabbath. And your absolutely right.

As far as Collins vs. Gabriel Genesis, I also preferred Collins era when I first started listening to the band. It took awhile for Peter to grow on me, but when he did ... look out.

When I first got into them, "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" was my least favorite of their albums. Now it's among my favorites. Go figure.

Paul Rodgers recently just left Queen after being with Queen for five years.

I hope Aerosmith doesn't go the way of Van Halen. While Sammy is a great musician, he pretty much killed the band.
