Thought this might be of interest to the group: Mary Poppins' Opening Night in Los Angeles has a line you can get into for free and they give any unused tickets to those waiting in their Standby Line. It's not a guarentee you'll see the show that night, but it's worth a try (and they say they it's a rare occassion where they don't have enough seats for the people in their standby line)... and it's free... That's kinda cool.

Re: Mary Poppins Los Angeles and Opening Night
This show really is practically perfect in my opinion, especially with talents like Ashley and Gavin!
The technical elements are so amazing! And the rigging is crazy! Where else do you get to see people fly or walk on the proscenium?!
HIGHLY recommend seeing it!

Re: Mary Poppins Los Angeles and Opening Night
Saw it tonight.
Absolutely incredible.
The acting is superb. The leads are absolute naturals in their respective roles. The supporting cast ain't so bad themselves.
And that Ashley Brown has some major pipes on her. What a great voice.
The staging is equally impressive, with superlative set designs and effects.
Go see it.

Re: Mary Poppins Los Angeles and Opening Night
Took advantage of Goldstar's discount tickets to watch Mary Poppins last night with friends. So glad I got to see it last night before it left town. I've owned the London cast soundtrack for a couple of years now, so I was already familiar with the story changes from the movie. So I was caught off guard by the new song they performed in the children's room at the end of Act 1; it sounded very Danny Elfman-ish so obviously not in style to the rest of the soundtrack. Only bummer of the evening was our seats were second from the very back of the mezz at the very right end where there are steps, the farthest I've ever sat at the Ahmansen (consider me I'm spoiled) and during the show safety lights for the steps stayed on and obviously were in my peripheral vision. But the audience gave "Mary" a standing O! We loved it!

I cant even imagine what an experience it would be to see him live. Most definitely a living legend!
