  • Guitairist John Frusciante quits Red Hot Chili Peppers..... AGAIN!

I know that I'm a few days late on this but according to the Examiner.com, it appears that guitairist John Frusciante has quit Red Hot Chili Peppers.... AGAIN!

John Frusciante has quit the Red Hot Chili Peppers.*

While there has been speculation that this has been the case for months now, the guitarist confirmed the news on his website last night. His blog entry is at the conclusion of this article.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have had seven guitarists since forming more than 25 years ago, but Frusciante was the mainstay, playing on Mother's Milk, Blood Sugar Sex Magic, Californication, By The Way and Stadium Arcadium.

He left the band once before, in the midst of touring for Blood Sugar Sex Magic in May 1992, and returned six years later, following treatment for chemical addiction.

Other notable Chili Peppers guitarists include founding member Hillel Slovak, who died of a heroin overdose in 1988, and Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, who debuted with the band at Woodstock '94 and appeared on the album One Hot Minute.

Though the band hasn't commented on Frusciante's departure, it was reported by the British music outlet NME earlier this week that guitarist Josh Klinghoffer - who has ironically appeared on Frusciante's solo albums - is the new guitarist.

The band is currently working on their tenth studio album, which they are hoping to release in late 2010.

    JOHN FRUSCIANTE'S BLOG POST

"When I quit the band, over a year ago, we were on an indefinite hiatus. There was no drama or anger involved, and the other guys were very understanding. They are supportive of my doing whatever makes me happy and that goes both ways.

"To put it simply, my musical interests have led me in a different direction. Upon rejoining, and throughout my time in the band, I was very excited about exploring the musical possibilities inherent in a rock band, and doing so with those people in particular. A couple of years ago, I began to feel that same excitement again, but this time it was about making a different kind of music, alone, and being my own engineer.

"I really love the band and what we did. I understand and value that my work with them means a lot to many people, but I have to follow my interests. For me, art has never been something done out of a sense of duty. It is something I do because it is really fun, exciting, and interesting. Over the last 12 years, I have changed, as a person and artist, to such a degree that to do further work along the lines I did with the band would be to go against my own nature. There was no choice involved in this decision. I simply have to be what I am, and have to do what I must do."

    Heh.

The Chili Peppers stopped be relevant to me about 8 years ago. All their songs sound the same to me now.. though I will always say Flea has some massive chops on bass.
