  • RIP Ronnie James Dio

Ronnie James Dio former front-man of Black Sabbath and Rainbow has died at the age of 67.

Ronnie James Dio News - Yahoo! Music

Ronnie James Dio, whose soaring vocals, poetic lyrics and mythic tales of a never-ending struggle between good and evil broke new ground in heavy metal, died Sunday, according to a statement from his wife and manager. He was 67.

Dio revealed last summer that he was suffering from stomach cancer shortly after wrapping up a tour in Atlantic City, N.J. with the latest incarnation of Black Sabbath, under the name Heaven And Hell.

"Today my heart is broken," Wendy Dio wrote on the singer's site, adding he died at 7:45 a.m. "Many, many friends and family were able to say their private goodbyes before he peacefully passed away.

"Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all," Wendy Dio continued. "We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us ... Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever."

The statement was confirmed by Los Angeles publicist Maureen O'Connor.

VERY SAD DAY FOR METAL. He was one of the first to introduce me to the music I love so dear. He will be missed but never gone.

      RIP DIO

OMG. I loved Dio. I remember seeing him live during the Last in Line tour and I loved the Sabbath albums Mob Rules and Heaven and Hell. Damn, I'm going to miss Dio. I loved his voice!

It was a indeed a Black Sabbath yesterday now that we lost Dio
I'm just glad I got to see him last September in San Fran touring with Heaven and Hell, because I always wanted to see him live. I sadly will never get the chance to see his solo music live. Long live his music and may rock and metal heads remember him forever for what he did for music.

\m/ You will be missed Dio

I am truly heartbroken at finding this out. I was out of town and away from my computer since Sunday. I get back and the first thing I see is a note from my friend telling me that Dio is gone. He was a hero of mine and like aashee, i regret not seeing him or Black Sabbath/Heaven and Hell before it was too late.

                      Rest well "Holy Diver"!

Luckily we saw him perform live with Heaven & Hell a couple years back. Great show. Too bad they never had a Rainbow reunion, his vocals were awesome in such songs as "Tarot Woman", and "Gates of Babylon".

If you haven't seen it yet go to YouTube and check out the cameo he did in "Tenacious D & the Pick of Destiny". I want to get that poster!

Such a shame. Ronnie was a really good guy. I was saddened when I heard this news.
